Lanmaoa asiatica

Esteemed member
I have heard in the past of psychedelic mushrooms being served as food in, I memory serves me right, Thailand. I was thinking they were eating psilocybes. I never heard anyone talk of what the mushrooms were.

Just stumbled on this article, about Lanmaoa asiatica which I had never heard of before. The article has no information as to what the mushrooms contain, they are eaten in China, Papua New Guinea, and the Philippines but when undercooked they make the consumer see “little people”.

Anyone know any more about these?

Stamets says so far no known hallucinogenic compounds have been found in this species.

It seems all entheogenic mushrooms have a theme of "little people" (Amanitas for sure, and as for psilocybin mushrooms, liberty caps just are very elvish for me). I see this as proof that there is a phenomenon referred to as "spirit," a general character in related plants or (all or many?) fungi independent of the psychoactive molecules they carry to deliver their experiences.
