Hi Everyone,

this year i bought some electroluminicent wire to bring to festivals with me

the idea is to create something like this

i still have some time left until Samsara in August and plan to maybe do something else.
so i thought about building something with LEDs that can change color and looks nice.
the problem is i do not know what to build...
currently i am thinking about building a cube or maybe more about 10cm in size out of plexiglas that changes color.

there is also a lot of wareable electronics... so maybe fit some LEDs into cloths could be nice

if you have any idea please let me know

edit: something else just came to mind, i could build a festival totem. like a lasercut mandala backlit with colorchanging LEDs

A little faux-fireplace to stare at or spelling out a word like "LOVE" might be cool options.

Yeah, a while ago i made a post about a dutch artist who builds a sort of wind driven robotic creatures strandbeest (beachbeast). I think i even mentioned then, that it would be so cool to have such creatures with lasers or leds on them, or some speakers. Maybe completely powered by nothing but wind.

i think a strandbeest might be a bit much for now, but i might get there some day

i like the idea of spelling the word "love" somehow. thank you RAM for the idea

LED poi spinners are also nice if you have a little skill with them.

i know a bit about pois but it is difficult to build them with LEDs as it has to be sturdy in order to not break the electric circuit when the pois smash against each other or something ^^

I'll be at Samsara this year :)

What about building something that has mirrors involved to give an infinity effect.
Yeah, that is a realy cool idea. Maybe a sort of endless tunnel, vortex, or arch.

You could also maybe, attach them to one of those chinese dragon costumes.

so. i liked the idea of writing "love" so much,
i build a sign that spells "love" in EL Wire (looks like small neon) and flashes in the beat of the music.

i might have access to a lasercutter and will do the lasercut mandala i mentioned in my first post for samsara. new LEDs are ordered and i should receive them soon

get a few wires and controllers. I think I went through 3 controllers at shamb alone last summer..this year I will buy a pack just for eclipse.

here is the sign in built for the festival this week
the ELwire flashes to the beat of the music

the other side looks the same but in purple

so i had the sign i made with me at the festivial.
it was great fun ... but i also had the el wire i used to bulid it with me.

this was the best idea i had in a long time.
you should all bring them to festivals... they are great!

you can wrap them around armes and legs while dancing.
you can throught them in the air
we even used a 5m one for ropejumping in the dark
we had kids taking them and wrapping them around their bodies so parents could find them in the night on the dark dancefloors
you can even fold them and make pois out of them

they endured a lot of stress and only one of them broke - which i can fix easily again

You don't have to DIY them. There are quite some different models that work really well and will take a good amount of abuse.

The biggest concern is usually hitting yourself :p

Podpoi:

Flowlights:

And some crazy high tech profi tools:

It's really fun to run around with these on a festival. Nothing beats a good burn though.
