My first and only attempt at growing Mushrooms resulted in me making the substraite too wet and all I got was a bed of multicoloured mould! Sadly I don't think i kept that photo!

I've had rainbow mold that I have cultivated in jars before, if I ever get some more I'll be sure to snap some pictures before I compost it!

My first attempt (PF BRF) went pretty smoothy to be honest! I'm hoping my shift to rye grains goes as smooth!

For sure, can't let a little mold slow you down. there is always an chance of contamination when growing mushrooms, especially with the lack of a professional lab setup with flow hood.



I'll probably end up with some contamination from the transfer I took from that plate of "PES Hawaiian" but hopefully I'm able to clean it up with subsequent transfers

Todays Agar fail, there will be more to come, these's are not interesting fails but they were opened outdoors and were sour smelling, they hit the compost bin...

I should have started this thread earlier, as I've had a few spectacular fails all in my compost bin... maybe I'll check one day and there will be mushroom fruiting in the bin !!

Another one bites the bin, Looking at these failed cultures ( Outdoors obiously) has been very educatioal for myself. I had started to notice a common occurance with a lot of my failed agar plates vs the one that have been sucessful, and it appears the ones predominitly failing appear to be ones tat are experiance condonsation resulting on the water dripping on to the plate.

Luckly the other night in Chat, I was able to pick the brings of one of the forums local mycologists and received a lesson in proper agar work, and some tips on how to reduce condensation while pouring and letting the agar properly set-up, so I am eager to put these practices to work in my grow thread when I get around to pourn my sent batch of plates.

Another Couple fails of the week, More fuel for the Compost bin!

It's better to identify the contamination sooner. Try to not let grow it that much.

Ya I got a lot going on, been kinda absent from my lab the last couple day. I've got a lot of jars running at the moment, over all I haven't had too may fails with the amount of grains and agar I have used.

These jars are chilling on the back deck at the moment, been raining non stop here so haven't be able to hit the compost bin.
