It seems like some rookie research and rationale. Given @blig-blug example of psilocybin, that's not even the active molecule. It's a pro-drug. What if there is downstream effect that effectively converts some compound or combination of compounds that metabolize and biosynthesize into this novel experience?

It seems to me that the main research question was completely unrelated to psychoactivity of Lanmaoa asiatica, and they just added that as an "extra" at the end. Without too much thought, it seems.
