So SWIMs first extraction took place about a week ago. Ordered 500g of Acacia Confusa, and used 200g to start out with. Using q21's lime/naphtha tek he ended up with some nice fluffy white crystals & the typical yellow goo from Acacia that scraped up fairly well. The second pull was a disaster, nothing but yellow go with no real consistency, and not much of it. So for the remaining 300g a dry defat was used with around 300ml of warm naphtha. Stirred for around 10 minutes, drained & let the rest evaporate for awhile. Proceeded with the process as usual, and after putting in the naphtha for the first pull he noticed it turned yellow pretty quickly. Let it sit in the freezer for about 12 hrs and was left with 0.67 of some brown wax/goo. Any ideas on what went wrong here or if that's normal? The Acacia isn't yielding as much as expected and he was thinking the defat would help to produce more white crystals & less yellow goo. Hes planning on going on with the second pull tonight and then recrystallizing both pulls together.

You may try a slower crystalization as this helps obtain a purer product. Start off at room temp and gradually move to the fridge/freezer.
You could use heptane to recrystalize your dmt crystals. Centrifuge tubes are AMAZING at this.
I'll dump my dmt in a tube, and add heptane until it barely cover the dmt. Then I'll submerge the (capped) tube in water until the heptane/water level are equal. Don't fill the tube more than 1/3 full as you may need to add more heptane.
Gradually and gently head the water, you will notice your DMT dissolving and a layer of crud forming at the tube's cone. If not all has dissolved, shake the tube and add a little more heptane.
When everything is dissolved pour it off into a small dish/shotglass and seal it. Some tinfoils (pressed tightly around the edges of course) with a rubber band work well.
Leave this at room temperature for a few hours or overnight. In the morning put it in the freezer. If it did not sit out overnight give it 3-4 hrs and move it to the fridge for the night, and then naturally, to the freezer.

You fill the vial about 1/4-1/3 the way full with DMT, add naptha or (preferably) heptane. Submerge the tube into water until it is level with the dmt/heptane in the tube. Then slowly heat the water, slowly.
What youll see is the dmt melting into the heptane, while the heptane takes on a milky color that looks suspiciously like semen. If all the dmt does not dissolve shake the tube lightly and add a little more heptane.
Keep repeating this until all the dmt is dissolves and you have some brown gunk trapped at the bottom of the tube. Simply pour the white liquid off into a small dish/shotglass/mason jar or what have you. The gunk will tend to stay in the tube.
Meanwhile crystals start forming immediately. I'll be uploading a pictorial of this process and othing things I found that work well probably this weekend.

The picture I added was about 8hrs after I poured off the tubes. 3 hours at room temp. 5 hours in the freezer.

I'll have a guess.
Your napatha may be impure say a small percentage of toluene when you did the defat your dmt went with it.

Okay thanks 1ce! I'll have him give that a go. Spirit I'm not sure toluene but I'm guessing it can pull dmt-tannate molecules? If so that could have been part of the problem but the first pull I did without a defat was pretty unsatisfying too, didn't weight it up but definitely less a gram. May just be the bark...
I usually do small batches, I'll yield 500ish mg on the first precip. Second precip I'll have about 400. It sounds like alot but when you see all the black and brown crud that gets left behind with heptane numbers don't mean much to me.

It is very possible that you may just need better bark.
Also, most people agree that the a/b tek gives better, cleaner yields.
Although if you are not ok with using the volatile stuff, then you might want to disregard.
I know that there are potential modifications of the a/b, and/or hybrids, that allow the use of safer chemicals. but I am not familiar with them.
If you have some not so impressive results you can always try a mini a/b and or re-x with your product.
Im not sure if this is suitable for use with the tek you are using, but with the a/b you can add rock salt to your basified solution to make it more polar.
This encourages the alks to cross over to the non polar solvent you are using for your pulls.
Also, most people agree that the a/b tek gives better, cleaner yields.

Yeah, maybe calcium chloride even. You could saturate with salt so your aq. solution releases more DMT into the solvent. This happens because the salt is more soluble than DMT. So the DMT is evicted to make room for more salt.

Okay he'll keep that in mind Majak, he actually is using an a/b with safer products. White vinegar to acidify, calcium hydroxide to basify, and naphtha as the non polar solvent. Still confused as to why this pull was brownish when adding an extra dry defat in though.
