lysergify said:With regards to your take on Love, allow me to clarify in a specific way why I don't understand how this is viable. Let's take the coal mining industry as an example - this large, corrupt industry that destroys mountains, poisons streams, habitats, and communities - how then do I fight it with Love? Right now I have nothing but hatred for the industry, its greed, and its dishonesty. I don't act directly against it but support those who do directly or indirectly try to stop the mining. The people who stand on the side, talking about Love, get nothing done, whereas those who channel their anger into productive work do have concrete achievements under their belt.
My conclusion is that those who channel their anger into productive activities have a better track record than those who merely try to embody/project Love. Do you agree?
It is all a matter of perspective. You can choose to act out of anger toward the coal company, or you could act out of love for the Earth. Both get you to the same place, by vastly different emotional means. Which in the end is better for you personally?
Of course the point is to act rather than sit on the sidelines. But you choose your motivation...therefore there is always an opportunity for love in the face of fear. As far as embodying love, have you ever been near someone who radiates love and compassion? It is really quite remarkable, and I would say has a dramatic affect on those around them. We each have our part to play.
I disagree. Anger destroys, love creates. If the goal is to tear things down, then yes, anger would probably be more productive. But if the goal is to change, modify, accomodate, compromise, rationalize to build something better, then I would say love is the better choice.
