Lye Amounts in The DMT Handbook

In the PDF handbook it states that 200g of Lye be used for 2000g of acacia, I was under the impression it was 1g lye per 1g root bark? Is this right? I have checked the threads for the handbook and no one mentioned it so I think I'm just mistaken but I just wanted to make sure 1g per 1g or .1g per 1g of root bark? Thanks!

I think the 1g per 1g rootbark started in the noman's tek for Mimosa Rootbark... I am not looking at the handbook right now, but you are saying "used for 2000g of ACACIA". Note that mimosa is not acacia, so maybe thats why? Does SWIY plan to extract mimosa or acacia?

The tek in the Handbook is an Acid/Base tek, where the pH doesn't have to be as high in the basification phase as in a Straight To Base tek (like Noman's tek, which is probably the one where you got the 1g lye per 1g bark figure from).

Also, in the Handbook, the 200g of lye is added to less than 2.5 L of water, rather than 15mL per gram in Noman's tek.

ok so then I'm good, I can understand how that works, it makes sense, the STB basification is for extraction while the A/B is just switching the extracted alkaloids to a base so they can be vaporized better. Would it be bad for the overall extraction if I used to much lye? and I will be doing mimosa

If you are useing Mimosa, there is no real need to do an A/B extraction like in the Handbook, as Mimosa is a "cleaner" bark. A STB tek (I recomend Noman's, but without the Ammonia wash, a Sodium Carbonate wash is better) is less complacated and easier to do, especially if this is your first extraction.

Noman's tek can be found on the forums easy enough. I have found this place to a fountain of knowledge, and just by lurking for a while, I have learned more that I imagened possibe.

Actually A/B and STB are both used for extractions and i only think you can use to mush lye in an A/B not an STB

Ok I think I'm just gonna go the STB route as it is my first extraction and see how that goes, whats the best time to soak the bark in the base solution, nomans says an hour but I would think something like 5 or even 8 is that right?

1 hour is fine, but then you can do a few pulls, leave it for a while, and then when you want more spice you can do a couple more. SWIM has had the same 1 lb batch going for at least 6 weeks now. But it is just about tapped.

SWIM ordered from Ebay reatiler Secret Herbals. Idiot thing to do, as SWIM was at the time under the impression that it was legal to do so. Got lucky, and it slipped through. Was even opened and cleared!

As for how much SWIM yeilded, I have no idea. At first I thought it was a dud batch, then when as SWIM refined his tek, learned what he was doing wrong and kept at it, more kept coming out. I would hazard a rough guess at about 4 grams. SWIM does have a milligram scale, but he gets so excited when he has a new batch ready, he doesn't record how much is there.

Oh, and if you know a vendor to get some native material SWIM would be forever grateful.
