There should be no aluminum flakes (metal)or "blue" particles to dissolve. If so you have drain cleaner and not 100% sodium hydroxide. Aluminum is frequenly added to drain cleaners to heat the mixture and dissolve blockages quicker.
PLEASE STOP YOUR EXTRACTION IMMEDIATELY. IT CANNOT BE SAVED!!!Re-read some teks start to finish and purchase the correct materials or do not attempt extractions.
Only thing SWIM could find closest to. SWIM didn't add any of the metals into the solution. The ingredients on the drain cleaner "Zep Commercial Crystal clog remover" states: Contains Lye, Caustic Soda. SWIM conducted NP pull, and acquired orange-reddish crystals. SWIM is also conducting a hot naptha wash and recrystallization after NP evap. SWIM feels all is still well, if anyone should disagree give a detailed explanation of the variables involved, what why and how.
Lye is white. if your lye has any other colors in it contains other compounds and if they are not listed on the box i wouldnt touch it.

if its dry and in the dark it should last for a long time id imagine.
so was the lye SWIMs? only problem or did other stuff go wrong? there is a chance the stuff in the water phase didnt go into the non polar solvent. however extensive cleaning would be needed to make sure.

100% NaOH can be found on ebay and soapmaking websites. It can also be purchased a Lowes hardware.
I'm truly sorry about your loss....I've lost 2 grams of already extracted spice due to a stupid move on my part so I understand.
