r isnt trying to extract harmalas, but is trying to extract the active that causes sedation in passion flower. apparently its caused by flavonoids? r is just trying to make a crude extract by soaking it in solvent and evaporating. this is from 50g p. incarnata. what solvent should r use,
iso
acetone
vodka (hopefully not - its expensive)

i would imagine isopropyl would probably work.

also iirc there are no harmalas in the passiflora, but rather the flavonoids are the MAOI.

there is no reason to do this.

just take all the passion fruit and slowly boil the water out of it until you have a thick passion fruit reduction, just like you do to make sauces for food.

then if your game put your passion fruit reduction on some broiled lamb or pancakes and eat it.

it will provide all the effect and when done right it is very tasty too

of course there are betacarbolines in the form of harmalas, just not in every known strain. the quantities are much smaller than the ones found in caapi or rue, but IMO its still enough to have some activity or synergistic effect when combined with the effect of other mao inhibitors inside the plant.

check the passiflora thread from nen again and you will see refferences pointing that harmalas are indeed found in some passiflora variety's

edit : the thread where this is all discussed : passifloras of interest

this is for smoking, not for eating. r is making a mixture of herbs to be a nice relaxing smoke.

its gonna be

THH & maybe a bit of harmaline
passion flower extract 50x
salvia leaf (not enough to trip)
cannabis

r wanted to add lobelia instead of cannabis, but its remarkably hard to find in england...

there is always a reason for learning something new.

though, Lamb marinated in passionfruit sauce sounds absolutely delicious i might add, i freaking love lamb

Passionflower extract is great stuff, much more potent then the tea itself, tastes better, and IME was more useful to me.

You can make a tincture simply by soaking the crushed leaves in ethanol.

I made a simple alcohol extract, upon evaporation I was left with orange, amber like crystals that shattered when scrapped. This was good enough for me and I dosed it as it was.

It was phenomenal vaped with some cannabis, really smoothed things out for me since im not a big fan of cannabis. Sedating on its own, really useful stuff.

if you want smokeable passion fruit then dont add any chemicals here is what you do

take the juice then add a mild alkali (baking soda exc) just to get the ph neutral then do a reduction like mentioned before but this time use a double boiler.

once it is down to a thick paste get out a large metal tray and a plastic card and make it into a think sheet on the bottom of the tray then put in the over at 110 to 120 c (just over the boiling temp of water, and come back and check it ever 30 minutes.

once it is no longer sticky but flaky use the same card and try to remove it in as big of shingles as you can from the tray, then ones its off the bottom put it back in for another 10 minutes.

this will result in a substance which actually goes great on desserts (which is exactly how it is intended), but you could just as easily be able to smoalk it, the noted advantage of this is you will get the broad spectrum of scents and flavors, where if you pop a solvent in you will lose out on a great deal of the subtlety the fruit provides.

good luck

..yeah what Ambivalent said..

Hultin (1965) got 0.2% harmalas (harmaline, harmalol, harman etc.); Gracie & Zarkov got up to 0.5%

the flavonoids add further to the experience and, like the alkaloids, vary with strain..

ethanol or methanol are the most efficient for first stage extraction..
