Mimosa Hostilis STB extraction report

Hi there fellow nexians,

A fresh new batch of powdered Mimosa Hostilis rootbark has arrived. DMT crystals will be extracted by using the straight to base method with lye (caustic soda) and without any acid cooking.

Hopefully this is the right place to post the report.

Perhaps someone can help me out with placing the photo's in the text: Right now i can only add them as attachment at the bottom. Which makes it impossible to add text to the photo's.

These first 4 photos show how the base water is created. 80 grams of mimosa will be used, so i will add 80 grams of lye to 1.2 liters of water. The first photo shows all the items used (except for the tapwater).

It´s best to do this adding of the lye and subsequent stirring (slowly) of the water and lye, outside. Also wear protection like mask, gloves and eye protection.

The water will warm up a little, so after closing the lid, it is left to cool back to room temperature before the rootbark powder is added.

On the photos there are two pots. This is because i was planning to do 2 extractions at the same time. For this report i will continue with 1 pot because 2 pots might cause confusion for some. So the second glass pot may be ignored.

Actually, Warmer water will get the naptha warm and increase solubility. You will need less pulls out of warm water and you will not need to heat naptha over the stove. (which is a bad idea if you have a gas range). This is why I prefer to let it sit in a crock pot for a couple of hours. You don't brew tea in cold water, do you? That's why I never really understood why people do STB. You can't defat if you want a purer yield and if you aren't using powder, a lot of stuff will get left beinhd.

You ARE using powder though, so it will likely be fine. Just follow the tek closely.

I am no expert, so if a senior member provides input, follow that.

Thanks, good point. I was wondering if the base really needs to cool down again. I thought it might be necessary because otherwise the base water will be warm when adding the rootpowder, which will cause the base water to evaporate a little more then when it would be cold. And preferably you want as litte of the lye floating around in the air around you as possible.

Also i leave the base water with rootpowder standing around for a few hours while stirring every now and then, so it will have cooled off beore i add the naphta. I would never heat up naphta over s stove. The bain-marie method works best for warming naphta.

When I add the naphta, i place the whole jar in pan filled with warm water, so there i warm it up again.

Now for the adding of the Naphta. 150ml.

I put the glass pot in a pan of warm water. I mix the naphta by just placing the pot upside down very quickly every now and then.

I very much like to look at the bubbles in the naphta layer.

You look like you're doing everything perfect. Its actually pretty nice pictorial. The bubles are pretty fun to watch seperate. I find that swirling the jar causes the bubles to have a volcano like effect. very fun.

I do see one thing though, your naptha is not taking on any yellowing. Don't know why that is. Also, add about 40-60g of noniodized salt to it. It will increase your yeilds. You should let your jar sit for 24 hours or so to help the bark break down better. I don't know how safe those jars are though cuz of the plastic/rubber used in the sealing.

I do not believe a yellowing naphtha to be a good indication of DMT or not. I did an STB on 200g of ACRB. The NPS was clear, so much so that i was CERTAIN i didnt get any DMT. upon evap of the NPS, i had the biggest pile of white crystal that ive ever gotten.

Yellowing is NOT an indication of dmt at all, but I've found that if it doesn't gain any yelllowing then it probably isn't basic enough. But if he did 1.2l, 80, and 80, he should be fine.

And now for the extraction of the naphta. It actually did turn pretty yellow.

I have a second round of naphta in the pot now (im ahead of my pictorial) and the bottom layer of the naphta continues to stay a little murky. Pics of that later.

I took you advice du57mi73 in your pm and i ordered another batch somewhere else and i will do an identical extraction as this one to see if there's any difference.

Im looking to find a turkeybasker or whatever its called, but those aren't so easy to find around here, so i used that little oil bottle to extract the naphta and when im close to the soup i use a pipet for the last few ml's.

The extracted naphta is first collected in the plastic container. I then pour it into another jar. That way i can assure no soup comes along into the jar. You can see whats left in the plastic container. This is al poured back into the big jar.

I put bakingpaper in the small jar that i put into the freezer. Its much easier to get the spice out that way.

The photo of the jar, with the naphta in it, ready to go into freeze mode, was accidentally deleted.

Now im going to create some bubble tornadoes !

Below are the pics of the freeze precipatation.

The first 2 are taken after an hour of freezing. The naphta had turned yellowy milky by then.
The two after that were taken the morning after. So after about 10 hours.
I finally emptied the jar into a coffee filter that i had first drenched with naphta. All the crystals were piled up on the bakingpaper and next to none were left in the jar on the glass.

After drying, i weighed it at 0.64 grams. I did another pull this evening and will do another after a few days and the fourth and final one in a week or two.

Is noniodized salt normal kitchen salt ? I also have the lumpy sea salt. Will that do ?

The jars are safe as long as the rubber lids are i guess. I remove and clean them regularly. I also do this while the soup is in the jar. So when its sitting for longer time, the rubber is clean.

I enjoy a tiny bit of yellow in my crystals, however I'm always impressed by pristinely clean crystals

That's fine, crush it up and dissolve in warm water then add it to your mix.
(see the salt tek in my signature)

Yes i agree. It´s not sitting there for more than 5 minutes, but better would be to get a similar glass container. Thanks for the tip.

Not really a pro yet .. but i do like the proces as mentioned before.

Someone pm-ed me about the naphta i use. I did an evaporation test in advance and it looked good. If the pm-er has a better alternative i would very much like to know. I can't pm back coz i'm a new member.

Also if someone knows what i can best use to create caapi extract from caapi bark i have. Please let me know. Ethanol is no good, methanol is no good, acetone does't dissolve harmalas. So is 96% pure alcohol good ?
