More Leaks

Migrated topic.
This is in the news everywhere and I don't see how it has anything to do with psychedelics.

Thats why I put it in hyperspace tavern.

I think this is good...it sucks for those whose names are now out there...but ultimately, all this information should be freely available anyway.

When looking at state secrets (most of which are classified to keep the public from knowing what "its" state is up to) we must ask the question, "Why are these things secret?"

If the answer is "To protect lives (or interests, security or w/e else)" that begets a new question.

So we must then ask, "Why do these lives, interests or security (etc) need protecting?"

This elicits a response in the vein of, "Because there are unstable actors who seek destruction of the system/more wealth & power/some form of agency (that the hegemon doesn't approve of)/etc.

"Why do these actors exist?"

"Because of a history of globalized imperialist policies that have usurped people of their natural agency/resources/and power."

These leaks are good...any trouble they create, any lives they cost, any problem that is presented by the media as a reason to hate this for happening is nothing more than a self created problem of global imperialism.

You don't blame hornets for stinging the jackass who takes a baseball bat to their nest. Our chickens are coming home to roost, leaks or no, that is/was what we are seeing with the Arab spring and that is what we will continue to see until something actually changes.

I agree there shouldn't be so much secrets. Politics is filled with them, and the secrets are good only for the politicians wallets. But I don't even want to start...

Moving toward true transparency in our world is a painful process especially for those these leaks effect since people are still looking to thoroughly abuse any information that's free. Although baby steps are necessary in eventually reaching complete transparency, who among us who supports this concept is actually willing to be one of those strongly effected by having all secrets in their life revealed? It's easy to say tough luck for those other than ourselves who are harmed by these leaks, but how would any of you respond if you were in their position? Would you still retain the opinion that it's for the better if your life comes crashing down?

What exactly are you referencing here?

People didn't have "all secrets in their lives revealed." This isn't about transparency (not solely anyway) it's about the policies that drive a need for secrecy. The pieces of information revealed were not akin to presenting these people's entire lives to the world...it was the loss of cover and camouflage that put lives at risk by revealing this sensitive information to "the enemy."

I'm not working as a government agent/informant/supporter for the purpose of expanding/maintaining imperial policies of global control, so my life is unlikely to become embroiled in leaks or scandals of such a nature. As such I don't really see the parallel you are trying to draw.

You mean like Cheney outing that CIA operative because her husband pointed out lies in the Bush administration?
I'd be devastated and expect a charge of treason to be placed against those who betrayed my service.

Thank god wikileaks has morals!
