Multidisciplinary Association for Getting High

Migrated topic.
This is a bit sad.
On the other hand, it does bring up a very good point. Plants are so cool!

I can only hope the intentions of the highly educated and medically licensed involved in MAPS can outshine a poorly made youtube video. :?

I think it's cute. The delivery could have been better, especially after setting up the name of the organisation for so long.

Quite true. At the very least, it is still a step in the right direction. I expect "scientific" experimentation could benefit the psychedelic community regardless of how much it would be be missing effects in the non-physical spectrum. I think of it as nothing less than healthy exposure.

Otherwise, I seem to have misunderstood the humor of the video on the first run. :)

That video was excellent!! I think some of you guys may have misunderstood it... I see it as a joke on the use of these herbs and substances simply as tools for escaping the concencious reality. I feel such use is nothing but counter-productive, as the possibilities on the use of them as agents of self-exploration and growth is tremendous. Don't get me wrong, I have gotten high just to get high plenty of times, but that doesn't mean it does me any good.

eh...I didn't find it very enjoyable. Imo, satire is most effective when it's solidly grounded in the reality of the situation it is satirizing (and then pokes at it or takes it over the top). This video missed the mark wildly as far as I'm concerned. That's not to say I don't think such a video could be hysterical...I just think this was a failed attempt. I'll spare you my critiques, suffice it to say I have several for pretty much every scene and they revolve around satirizing realistic aspects/actions of these substances/MAPS rather than the vague/abstract concept of "Man eat plant, man get high, scientist study man, we laugh at scientist and high man".

I felt it was poking fun at the more ignorant/judgmental interpretations some people make, instead of realizing the profound scope of the matter that something like MAPS encompasses...

But maybe that was just my interpretation. I've been high a lot these days, you know, doing my hedonistic thing ;)

Ahhh, I could see that. hmmmm....I dunno, I guess from the manner it was presented (namely focusing on MAPS and the studies) I felt that it was satirizing that rather than the views of those outside the organization. Perhaps I shall get high and contemplate this :p

HAHAHA, now THAT was a classic. I think I nearly pee'd myself the first time I saw that. Also...is it just me or did the guy in that one look oddly like an overweight T. McK?
