Mushroom extraction solvent debate

Hi. There is a lot of disagreement among people about the best solvent to use for extracting the magic from magic mushrooms. Many people say that methanol is preferred, others say ethanol is just fine as well. Still, other people say that you need to do a chloroform wash to defat first. I've even heard of people using acetic acid at pH 4.

Is there a general consensus? Ethanol and acetic acid are easy enough to obtain, but methanol and chloroform?

SWIM is about to start a mushroom extraction and wants it to be done right -- the first time.

methanol is actually cheaper and easier to obtain then grain alcohol in most cases.

dried mushrooms don't contain a lot of fats, a chloroform wash isn't necessary.

There are threads on this, as you may have seen, methanol was demonstrated to be superior alcohol for mushroom extractions.

you don't need to acidify to extract with an alcohol
