Mushroom infused mead

Gone-and-Back

Esteemed member
Not sure if this is the right spot to post this, but here goes.

I have been looking into making mead recently. I know that we can infuse mushrooms into honey, which is what mead is made from. So would it be possible to use an infused honey, to create a psychedelic mead?

I don't know how the actives would hold up under fermentation. Was wondering if anyone has any insight on this or if anyone has tried it. I know it's not going to be the greatest way to dose, but it's an interesting idea that I think I want to play around with just for the hell of it.

Thoughts?

Cool idea. Most of the actives we're usually interested in can survive in much higher concentrations of alcohol than you'd normally have in a regular mead, so I think it's worth the try. Just be mindful of how much you take the first time you try it so as to not overdo it, depending on how concentrated you make it.

I would expect that psilocybin will decompose due to long exposure to water and product will be inactive. Another issue is that taste of mushrooms is not very good ( in my opinion it's awful), so in case it will be succesful, your mead will not be very tasty.

I actually don't mind the taste of mushrooms, so I don't think that would be an issue for me. I would want to try to make it potent enough that a shot or two will be active, so it's not like drinking a whole glass of mushroomy mead.
