Mushy crystals that don't seem to dry.

Hello everyone,

I've just read about someone who extracted some DMT and has some questions, and thought what better place to ask than here.

Basically this person used cheaper naphtha because it's a bit tough to find light naphtha, hexane, heptane or Shellsol T, he has done an a/b extaction with vinegar and Ca(OH)2 instead of NaOH to keep it slightly food-safer (or so he said).

The thing is that now, after freeze precipitating, his crystals seem to be taking a long time to dry, and are all mushy and smell a lot of cheap naphtha. A simple reagent test can confirm that what he has are indeed spice crystals, and when burned, they smell like spice, but the extra smell of naphtha and the fact that the crystals are basically flammable after a day or so of drying is scaring him. He said he put some of that naphtha on a microscope slide and it was completely clean after it evaporated. He was also saying it took really long, though, so maybe that's what's going on?

Now, I really don't know what to tell this guy. Should I tell him to just be more patient and hopefully the xtals will dry and stop smelling like naphtha, or should I tell him to try harder to find some better naphtha for the next pull, or maybe try a tek that involves a less bad-for-you solvent such as limonene? I think he might have some more fresh mhrb left.

I could e-mail him a tek I've seen on the wiki that's completely food safe (vinegar, CaOH and limonene).

Thanks everyone.

Hello everyone,

My friend just sent me an email. He's very happy, after obtaining some decent solvent, he's not only recrystalized his old extraction with great success but he's also done another extraction from scratch using only the new solvent, and the results seem to have made him real happy.

He obtained about 75mg from 50g MHRB after letting the basified bark sit for one hour (he's really impatient when he's excited about something, hopefully one day he will learn), he's now going to wait a few days until the next pull, hoping for a better yield.

He thinks the small initial yield is caused by the bark not being too finely shredded and the fact that he only let the basified bark sit for a little longer than one hour, and asked me if I could ask you whether that's likely the case. He's happy anyway, because he has enough to go to hyperspace a few times and it's not like he's trying to make hundreds of pounds of this stuff.

He described the results as odour-free crystals that look like white sugar in colour but fluffier and much more shiny.

He mentioned that he had to recrystalize his first batch 2 times, as the first time the colour was very white but the old low quality solvent was still perfectly smellable. After the second time, it was just as good and odour-free as the second batch done with the high quality solvent.

He also expressed some concern as he had to buy most of the supplies over the internet and wished he hadn't had to do this.

Thanks everyone.
