Gonna see Roky Erickson play on Wednesday, opening for the Black Angels.
For those not familiar with the sad story - the 13th floor elevators were one of the 'first' psychedelic bands in the 60's. Roky was caught with a tiny amount of marijuana and given the option of a ridiculous jail sentence or the infamous RUSK state mental hospital, he wound up there and got shock treatments for years ….
It is pretty apparent that he had some degree of underlying mental illness, but because he was a 'threat' to the youth culture, and the stigma of LSD, he got completely unjustifiable mental health treatment (when it was even more of a middle ages practice) and now is a shell of his former self, except when playing music
Psyched and sad to see him. They were brilliant in their youth: (That voice - a banshee)
On one of my "crash into" experiences, you know, not quite a breakthrough. I heard the low tone chaotic vibratory noise of my supressed emotions. It started to drive me crazy.
I just hope that I have the courage to continue applying and following through the lessons so that some day I can hear my vibratory sound some thing close to these powerful musicians from the mountains of Nepal.
Huun Huur Tu
This concert is truly amazing. They use string instruments but they also mix different tones through throat singing
They freaking jam! My favorite song is the one about the horses of the mountains. You can fast forward to 10:00:00
We just started playing together a couple months ago, we've just had our 2nd show. Battle of the Bands and won 1st place again! We have a song coming out on itunes this week also, our first professionally recorded and mastered track. Tell me what you guys think. So far we only have videos of us at shows and some home recordings on soundcloud I linked to on our facebook page.
