Hi to all

Amanita muscaria has been on my radar for years, sensing that it has important medicine to offer, and knowing that it is found abundantly in certain areas of my country. I have very little experience from previous years; it is this year that I have made a substantial harvest and am ripe for proper study/introduction to this medicine.

First of all, as I always emphasize, there are regional differences, and I have experienced a bit from one temperate rainforest region with Spruce as the dominant and host tree, but my bulk harvest is from a "less exotic" mountain forest with Fir as the host tree. Both around 1500m elevations. Secondly, I recall it noted that early season amanitas are more powerful than later season harvested ones. My bulk harvest is from late October, which is definitely late season, and it will leave me curious about what I am missing out in.

Photos: first 4 from first region (they were extremely rare and I have only a few mushrooms from there), and last 7 from the second place. They were very abundant there and I got my bulk harvest here.

Now about my study of the spirit:

I have eaten a good amount (small amount each time) of fresh caps during these harvests and I can say that the common impression that fresh caps are the only state of this mushroom that gives an experience that is "psychedelic" (colors, visuals, visions) is true. Eating fresh is not advised and carries dangerous toxicity risks if consumed too much. But in small amounts I haven't experienced problems and the experience has been enjoyable. It is completely different from tryptamines, and the closest thing I know that came to my mind has been salvia, likely because of the common "dissociative" categorization, but of course it is very different from salvia too. I came close to the size distortion effects, but in the end, the acute experience is not really about a different perception of this reality, but of "crossing the veil and entering another world." And that world is accessible through dreaming.

When consuming dried caps as a tea or by eating, even though the essential experience is very similar, the psychedelic quality (colors, visuals, visions) is pretty much missing. It starts off with a stimulated flow state (as they say), getting a lot of practical physical work done, and then the slumber kicks in. The bulk of the healing work seems to ve done during sleep with amanita. So this is a dream mushroom. Not a mushroom that gives you a proper "trip."

The sleep it provides has always felt restorative for me so far. It feels properly rejuvenating to the nerves. And the dreams... The dreams always have felt to have a special quality to them, but so far it has been only the first strain's dreams which has had the quality of being highly magical and emotionally deeply touching for me.

And then waking up, I feel not only refreshed, but also a deep sense of contentment. It seems that a good dose (5-10g of dried cap) is really conducive of a legitimate "reset," as they say.

As I get more acquainted with this mushroom, my weariness has been fading and I am getting more comfortable with higher doses and trusting and letting go to the mushroom spirit.

This is different medicine, and a novel and complementary integration to my huasca work. I have found truth to the saying that it works more on a subconscious level.

The well being / empowerment state it provides is very powerful, and I have come across people who not only revere it as the highest medicine, but also claim that it just automatically "erases all negativity and trauma" or even "gives free enlightenment." Of course such claims can never be true. I still need more study to know exactly what is going on, but so far what I can say is, for sure it has a purging/cleansing effect - I always experience deep burps alongside nausea that could turn into purging, but the perfect state it offers feels more like a temporary support rather than a reaching of a final healed state.

The afterglow, along with providing the well being, is also very resonant with mundane human existence, unlike huasca in my experience. Ruehuasca attunes me to a divine frequency which orients me to an "elite" way of life, not integrated into (contemporary) common human world. Amanita really erases any disharmony or disturbance I feel from common life and I feel fully at ease and integrated in the social world.

"Relief" could be the keyword for this mushroom. What it provides is temporary relief from all pain and difficulties - physical, mental, emotional etc. Ease, relaxation, and a carefree state, along with a sense of confidence and empowerment.

Here is an account of one of my fresh amanita eating experiences: Haphazard Amanita Administration Thread

Thanks for reading.

Thank you for sharing. I remember one Russian Youtube guy from Germany telling that Amanita can lead you to a state similar to Turiya or nonduality. Only once did I have a strong experience with this mushroom that pointed that way. It was impossible to replicate in my case. That YT guy was fun to listen to though - a Russian immigrant with a bottle of beer and a cigarette talking about life and Amanita. He sounds close to Alan Watts in his presentation if you know the language. I'll add the video so you get the picture. The title reads something like "Soma Fly Agaric Experience of Traditional Learning part 4"

Like I've been hinting, preexisting frameworks have not resonated with my experience with this mushroom. Eaten fresh, eaten dried (dried in 60 C), a tea from dried, and a tea boiled with added acid all appeared to be essentially the same, minus the extra psychedelic power in fresh mushrooms. I don't doubt that there is a progressive reduction in toxicity with all these steps, and take care with the dose accordingly, but qualitatively it has all been the same amanita spirit for me.

Also, my impression has been that this mushroom is not about an experience, at least not when awake. That's looking at the wrong place. Perhaps very high doses do give striking experiences, but those experiences are still not where the mushroom shines, in my current understanding.

Of course, it starts with the "ibotenic acid" phase, and I do enjoy that experience very much. But it's not a psychedelic trip. It's the extraverted phase of the support and relief effect of the mushroom.

I am a noob with this mushroom and will remain so for some time. Let's see how my views evolve.

I don't have enough experience to say for sure, but I did notice that eating a piece of a very young cap that hadn't opened yet gave very strong effects.
Yes, I think the young ones are the strongest. Then Amanita's potency seems to heavily depend on the habitat. I don't know what makes it strong, but they sure vary a lot in potency from place to place.

That guy looks like my uncle, hehe. I wish I could remember his recipe, but the last time I watched that channel was close to 10 years ago. What I tried to hint at is that there are people who hold Amanita in high regard and think that it's a far superior experience to psilocybin or other medicines. I never experienced it that way, so I was wondering if we are just wired differently. Maybe this mushroom is just that different depending on where it grows. One thing is sure, Amanita is a mystery. If I'd never had that one strong experience with it, I would simply have written it off.
