Hello all its been a while since I last posted ( forgot my password :) but I have a couple ID ??? and I want to show off my collection. The cactus in question, I saw this huge T. Pachanoi growing in a clients yard, thinking that it wasn't a pc Pedro as it looked quite different then mine at home, on the mother plant there was deep v's above the areoles and it was a very shiny green, so I bought two cuttings, but now looking at my pc and these two cuttings, now I think they are pc, what do you guys think?

And how bout this one? It's my oldest cactus (3yrs) I bought it as a T. Peruvianus but now believe it is a T. Cuzcoensis

I'm also getting a T. Lumberjackius this week and a short spined peruvianus (Pachanoi?) next week as well
 
Good looking pets! I too have mostly Bridgesii, some Peruvianus, 1 Monstrose Pach and I bought one which is probably PC Pach. I like your Juul's Giant. It's on my list.

I think you're probably right about the Cuzcoensis. It's pretty though.
 
They grow extremely fast in no time at all, I bought 4 6" Bridgesii seedlings two years ago, now I have twelve 36" Bridgessi's all from the originals, that's even after giving four or five of em away as gifts. They grow pretty thin and fall over easily in the wind, but I just replant them and they root super fast, and they all pup like crazy. Eventual exponential growth 8)
 
For sure my friend, I actually had a 20" Bridgesii piece that fell over from a storm a couple months ago that I decided to turn into cactus tea. I cut off the 8" tip to replant, despined and chopped the rest of the 12". It's sitting in the freezer now and I'm gonna cook it tonight, so I should have a trip report this weekend.
 
So I was thinking of using house's resin tek, should I depeel the cactus first? Or does it matter that I leave that thin waxy layer on it, sorry used the search engine for the last hour, couldn't find an answer :?
 
I haven't personally tried that method but I noticed while using it in a brew that depeeling it deffinently takes away from some of the nausea.
 
I just did some looking around and wasn't able to come up with anything so I made a call and a friend of mine says you should get rid of that waxy layer it's had little to no activity in it but that is just the opinion of a pal who knows a thing or two not concrete facts sorry :(
 
Oh for sure, thanks for the reply, I was just trying to avoid it out of laziness, it's a bit of a pain . But I think I'm going to peel the skin when it thaws just in case. Thank you for making the extra effort to call a friend for me, that's really cool of you :)
 
Glad to help, let me know how your experience goes and if you think it is worth removing or not because judging by how little info about it is avaliable on the web I don't think it's been looked into thoroughly.
 
From what I understand the thin waxy layer on the outside should be removed. It will help with the boiling process by eliminating some of that thick nasty cactus snot that is produced, and it will help remove some of the nausea as well. Removing it also helps with extractions because it will cut back on emulsions.

There really isn't anything in that layer, it's more so for protection of the cactus underneath it. Every one I have spoken too about it removes the waxy layer for both brews and extractions.
 
Yeah I ended up removing the waxy layer yesterday morning, it was pretty easy to do as it was semi-frozen. I went and boiled the pieces 3x with a bit of lemon juice, combined the 3 extractions and reduced to an amount bout a half of a coffee cups worth, planning on drinking it tonight with some very specific intentions for this experience. I'll have a trip report for y'all tomorrow!
 
What an amazing collection! My plants are taking forever to get started. I received cuttings from a friend and they have grown about an inch in the past 4 months... Im wondering if it takes a while for them to get rooted and take off?
 
The more roots they have , the faster they grow.
If, of course, all conditions (T°, light, water, nutriments, ...) are optimum.
