My first steps with 5-MeO-DMT

I have recently started experimenting with 5-MeO-DMT, which from now on I will call mebufotenin to make it easier to type and read.

I'm interested in the somatic component of the experience, as I have many somatic issues that I'm learning to work through.

I have made 1:12 vape juice, made from mebufotenin HCl and PG. I'm using a vspe cart instead of a pod to avoid leaks, and because I don't really need big puffs. The cart is a 0.5ml CCELL TH2-Evomax, highly recommended as it seems to be leak proof even with big temperature or pressure (due to altitude) changes. This setup is meant to deliver very low doses, easily staying sub-milligram. It's based on the "jaguar vape pen" document: Jaguar Vape Pens

I take a few seconds puff and start to meditate immediately. At these low doses, it seems to really enhance meditation without getting in the way. Surprisingly it makes it very easy to access first jhana once in the comedown. It seems to be a genuine jhana, not induced, as I get out of it easily as my focus falters. In the past I've been more able to access jhana, but currently my practice was very lacking, so I'm surprised it has made it that easy. I'm trying to use it to learn better how to access it quickly, and hopefully what I learn will still be useful without any substance.

I'm using it sporadically. It seems that it would be reasonable to take it daily, but I'm going through a very rough patch mentally and I don't want to risk getting ungrounded (I've also reduced the frequency and doses of all other psychedelics I may take).

My plan is to very gradually increase doses, as I learn to get comfortable and work with each level. Very gradually. If/when I come closer to a breakthrough level dose, I will probably stop increasing the dose, as AFAIK it's not safe to have a mebufotenin breakthrough without a sitter.

I have a lot of fear related to most somatic issues, so I expect this to last a very long time before I'm ready to work with relatively high (but still not breakthrough) doses.

Does anyone have experience working with very low doses?

I haven't had any experience with mebufotenin (learn a new word everyday!) but I am very interested in where this goes for you. I've seen a lot of people end up very ungrounded from it but that's likely because they're into blast-off territory with every dose. I've often thought if I ever gave it a go this is how I would do it. How long does it last like this compared with DMT?

Following with interest.

Yeah, I have read about many cases like that. That's why I'm trying to be even more cautious than usual. So far the very low doses seem to be relaxing and to actually pull myself more into my body, but this could change with more frequent or longer term use, and will probably change at some (hopefully far away) dosage level.
One of the benefits of being active in a place like this is that many people that have seen or even experienced very ungrounded states can give feedback and warn one if something like that starts happening

I would say about the same a low dose of DMT lasts. In my case, that's about 10 minutes with clear effects and some 20 more of very subtle, lingering effects.

It's interesting to me that so far the somatic effects from mebufotenin are more prominent than they would be for a very low dose of DMT, and yet more comfortable.

One of my motivations for this is that with DMT I've seen that I have some kind of somatic memories or reactions that DMT activates, and that scare me away from higher dosages. In the past I've worked in a similar way with low doses of DMT, but meditating correctly was difficult with it, as it was very easy to get caught in a parade of images. Learning to keep focus in the presence of those images was valuable, but still it seemed that I was working against DMT instead of with it in some ways.

We'll see how this evolves. I'm going to take it with a lot of calm because this is not a good moment to push myself too much.

So long as you can stay open to feedback. I think you'll be fine. Vibing with your grounded approach, really sensible and to be commended.

I do think low dose it has great potential. You're not the first person to mention it's somatic quality and that is the part that makes me most interested. Plus I've also noticed the same thing as you re dmt and meditation on low doses, if mebufotenin doesn't have the same way of grabbing our attentions and forcibly trying to direct it in the same way then we're in luck lol

It’s been a decade since I had synth stuff but I
am fairly certain I have been vaping it pretty often atm in aquatica extracts. Very low doses like 5mg of impure tryptamine goo. I don’t have much else to say. The effect is like you describe and I don’t feel ungrounded doing it 1-2 times a week lately.

Great to hear about your experimentation
I'm also particularly intested in the somatic effects of both mebufotenin (calling it 5 is even easier) and also NN-DMT. I have experimented with very low doses, but with 5, I'm trying to "touch the void" rather than being catapulted into it. Past experiences of high doses have been rather distressing, so I'm reluctant to repeat them, but even then the after effect was strong and pleasurable in a somatic sense.

I also use vape pens and find then good as a mean of controlling dose, though I have no way of measuring the amount consumed.

I take a few seconds puff and start to meditate immediately.

At a moderate dose I can't think of doing anyting immediately after inhaling except to experience the melting of the world.

I'm no longer a practicing meditator, so I don't think in terms of jhanas, but I'm sensitive to energy movement within my body and the afterglow of 5 is particularly strong in that sense, both in the 30 minutes or so after the initial high (if that's an appropriate term for what occurs) and also in a diminishing way for hours or even days afterwards.
AFAIK it's not safe to have a mebufotenin breakthrough without a sitter.
IMO it depends on your preparedness and state of mind (set and setting as they say). It can be scary as hell, so having someone to hold your hand could be comforting, but if you're building up gradually, maybe not essential. Though if you're "going through a very rough patch mentally", this may not be the time to try it. And daily dosing might be a bit much.

I think Trav and mods mentioned in the past that they want us to refrain from calling 5-MeO-DMT “5” or “five” etc to avoid confusing the compound with any other 5 substituted tryptamines.
Yeah, at least for the name "5-MeO". I think "five" is far away enough from being a chemical formula that it could be acceptable, I don't know what @The Traveler thinks about that.

The main concern is that people will read about "5-MeO" and then apply what they have read to other "5-MeO" substances.

For future search, full names, like 5-MeO-DMT, are always preferred 😎

Preferred to the point of needing to discourage non-ambiguous shorthands? After all, for each of most other substances, a handful of names is used in the Nexus (see DMT, LSD, MDMA...). I understand shorthands like "5-MeO" can be dangerous, but others like "five" seem fine from that perspective, even if I wouldn't personally use them. Search keeps getting better and more semantic, so I wouldn't worry too much about raw strings not matching.

I'll keep using "mebufotenin" in this thread, as IMO it's the only option that's not ambiguous (unlike "bufo" and similar) while being easy to pronounce and type. So I'm interested in promoting the term.

What about physical safety? E.g. risk of choking, hitting oneself in a bad way, etc. Are these real risks if one takes necessary precautions? For example, with ketamine the risk of vomiting and choking is definitely possible, but it can be mitigated by an empty stomach, lying in the recovery position by default, knowing your reaction to the substance... But as mebufotenin doesn't paralyze you, it sounds riskier in that sense.

Yes I guess that could be an issue. Falling over is common so obviously you need to be sitting stably or lying down, but as far as I can tell violent physical reactions and vomiting are uncommon. I have certainly never experienced any of those symptoms. Hopefully building up doses gradually would give an indication if any were likely to occur.

I read one report of a tripper screaming repeatedly, so I have audio-recorded myself on a couple of occasions. Even on the strongest dose, I made no sounds other than some rustling of bedclothes when I panicked and sat up to rejoin the material world.

But if you can find someone to sit with you that would certainly be preferred.
