NMT -> AMT?

Hello some one I know has some NMT from an extraction they just did and was wondering how NMT is made in to AMT? It seems like it wouldn't be to hard, but I'm not a chemist. Also what is the stable form for NMT? I hear fumaric acid could precipitate hard salts, but I don't know if they meant for the DMT or the NMT. Any knowledge would be appreaciated.

you can't derive AMT from NMT, sorry. you're talking about moving the methyl group from a terminal amine group to its adjacent carbon. that's not feasible at all.

Synth talk is not allowed on The Nexus because many of the reagents required are dangerous, the processes are complicated and unless you have access to a lab and training in the art of Organic Chemistry, it's very hard to do safely.

Also, just looking at the skeletons, I can't think of an 'easy' way to do this like you're suggesting, even if 'easy' meant 'easy to do in a lab with proper reagents, training and safety precautions in place.' Just because they have the same molecular formula and the same number of methyl groups doesn't mean you can just move them around willy-nilly.

OK I just had to ask but thanks I understand. I was looking at 4 other methods but it didn't list it surprisingly. But I assume tryptophan would be a lot easier to get ahold of than nmt so it's not feasible I suppose. Any ways something to ponder on.

Just because two molecules look the same doesn't mean they can be easily turned from one to the other, in some cases yes but in most cases it is very hard without vast experience in organic chemistry and even then the chemicals needed in most cases are virtually impossible to obtain without a license which you will not be able to get without a valid reason...

you could have a PhD in Computational Chem, another Ph.D in Organic Chem, and access to a well-funded lab...the conversion still isn't happening. chemistry just doesn't work like that.
