No crystals forming in freeze precip

SWIM recently did a DMT extraction using QT's DMT extraction for students and is currently waiting for some crystals to form. He had about 7 or 8 pulls from 80 mg of mimosa hostilis root bark and has set one pull out to evap, and placed two in the freezer. the evap pull is going just fine. It's the freeze precip they are cautious about. he set the pulls out to evap for a nice saturation and once they turned a cloudy white, he placed them in the freezer. from what he read crystals are supposed to either be suspended in the solvent, or be caked to the bottom and sides of the mason jar. they have been in the freezer for a few hours now and neither of those have happened yet. is it too late to turn back and contue some more saturation? or would that be a bad idea? He is really really trying to avoid the dreaded goop.

P.S. this is my first post so I'm not entirely sure where this is going but I am hoping im not just posting on to a thread.(I'm also new to forums... )

His tek is heavily critisized so he decided to do what he thought was best. The tek he used doesnt mention freeze precip at all. he thought about regular evap but then read that it was found better to use freeze evaporation. he has tried putting a little bit in a dish and evaping it also. the yields were pretty much oil until he scraped them around. then he waited an hour or so and lost of crystals had formed. the DMT was very potent so he knows there is a good amount of DMT in the solvent.

this is your problem.

Best bet is to choose a tek from the wiki and follow it to the letter. You can mix and match your extraction method once you know what your doing but for now just stick to a popular method, i suggest the Noman or Q21 teks.

freeze precip needs at 12-18hrs, maybe more, to complete so after a few hours i wouldnt be worried. Have a read through the wiki and the FaQ and then the basic extraction forum, there lots of answers in there.

Thanks man, that puts my mind at ease. A lot of the research I did said that it should happen in just a few hours but im glad to hear thats not always the case. everything has gone really well so far so I guess I'm just gettin a little paranoid...

Also i have trouble finding the actual tek by just looking it up. it mostly just brings me to posts on this, and other, websites. how do you usually go about finding them?

wow. you are very helpful. :d I thank you very much for the knowledge and advice. I will make sure to update the status of his solvent tomorrow. He was really alarmed to hear all the hate about the tek he used AFTER HE HAD ALREADY STARTED so he's just been doubting himself at almost every turn.

Success! My friend has just strained the naphtha with a coffee filter and gathered a very nice amount of crystal. He is leaving the naphtha out now to evaporate and is currently testing out the crystals with some friends. Thanks again!

I just did a freeze precip for about 9 hours and I'm not really sure what's going on with it. There's still some brown goop in there (I haven't mastered the art of pulling out the naptha with a baster yet, but I think I see SOME crystals in there:

Also, if I decide to do a sodium carbonate wash with the final product, will I not have to worry about the naoh/water/lye mixture? Or should I go back to square one and try to do another pull without about the goop there.

you have alot of contamination from your basic soup. i would combine the impure extracts in a glass, and then try to swirl that brown goo together with the crystals, if there are any, in some warm naphtha(prepared in hot water bath) in order to dissolve and separate trapped dmt from the basic soup. use small amounts of solvent to saturate the solvent and with that get good freeze precip.
