official extraction help thread

Migrated topic.
i advise everyone to try and understand what it is that is actually happening, with this extraction, it will make things a lot more easy to grasp. like, what is a freebase. or just the fundamentals of acid-base extraction in general. because beyond that, the only really unique thing here is that naptha is a very ineffective solvent at room temp for DMT, and it only pulls it in once warm to hot, and doesnt release it until very cold, resulting in what usually is a nice clean transition into crystals.
remember, you can do cold/room temp pulls using almost any other NP solvent or polar solvent, then evaporate that down, and then process with naptha the same way as you would on your soup, except now you have a few tablespoons of sludgy oil not litres of emulsifiable bark soup.

also, someone said dmt acetate was bad, if you take that concentrate, add sodium carbonate, in excess, you can now do a very easy and convenient pull as i just described above, with more volume of naptha than your start material. nice and safe and easy to make warm, and youll probably even have some indication of pull purity and ability to fine tune based on how the color migrates over because the naptha will for the most part remain clear.

FYI, for polar vs non polar. a short easy way to remember is that freebase oils are non polar, HOWEVER freebases usually sum out to be low-polarity meaning they are pole-neutral and will just dissolve in anything to a degree. the salts of said freebases once acid is applied tend to be quite polar, as they now dissolve in water. polar solvents dont neccesarily have a high affinity for water, but they will have one, wheras non polar will be explicitly very low. if you mentally interchange polar/non-polar with affinity for water, or, some opposite-image of oil/petro-oil/floats on or beads on water, 9/10 youll have the right idea.
DCM, ethyl acetate and ethers (not pet ethers, they arent actually ethers) are low water solubility polar solvents which also just arent very polar, hence why they dont readily mix into water like highly polar alcohols.
I got tired writing this, and dont have a fun way to segway in, so ill just drop this one last fact. using EtAC, DCM, chloroform or ether, you will potentially dissolve weaker polar DMT salts, they will partition as a fraction between the solvents. DCM and DMT acetate is an example as DCM also will pull acetic acid out of water. polar solvents will also pull alcohols out too and will not interact with alcohol containing water the same as regular water.

Basically a little thought must go into any use of polar solvents, they will penetrate bark and coalescque dmt dispersions into droplets better than NP because they also dissolve in the water slightly, the benefit is pretty much mechanical here though.
but NP solvents, dont worry about it, just remember that you are literally mixing oil and water, or oil and milk rather.

-edit

basically go over the fundamentals, watch a video or two of acid base solvent extraction, polar vs non-polar solvent systems, and, ph and ionic forces (pertaining to dissolved salts and what that does to a solution beyond just the density). then, resume your approach to extraction however you like, just try and make some logical connections between the abstract theory and what it is you are doing.

and if not videos, just ask an AI, you can pretty much get reliable advice about the mechanics at play without saying what it isi, just describing various properties it has. i.e "a large alkyl amine with poor solubility in water as the freebase and melting point, etc", just dont use AI to help you with instructions, because its going to give textbook standard responses just swapping out the names of what you have on hand if it deems them close enough
the best use of AI is asking it questions in relation to things you already know, building directly upon your existing knowledge.
I recently found out i already understand a decent amount about quantum mechanics just asking gemini to explain how radio waves work at the fundamental level, and after that i just kept going further and further, and realized its mostly all the same thing as things scale down, and quantum mechanics is just categorically everything that happens between the pixels of reality that dont render. id go further but then id have to explain quantum mechanics. im not a genius, i already knew about a lot of phenomena, its just that i had never strung any of it together, and AI helped me do so, i created a nice little foundation i can build upon.
So if you understand the value of the persuit of knowledge, and feel frustration at the idea of not having any idea what you are doing, this is probably the best way to go about it.

when you pose questions try to use more words .

likw what tek are you using

like how much water are you using now acording to the tek ?

and why would you add more if your following the tek

are you following a tek to the T or just kinda winging it ,

tell you know what and why of each amount a substance listed in a tek . then follow it ,

just kinda winging it mixing matching various tek is not good ,

Hi,

Hopefully you could help me understand what is going on here.

I am doing an extraction using Junglists Bootstrap mini STB Tek.
Ph of my lye water was measured to be over 12. Everything was done in room temperature (~20c)

100g MHRB
~900ml distilled water
~25g NaOH ≥99 %
35g NaCL ( kosher salt)
60ml NPS (40-60 petroleum ether, acs grade)

There is this cloudy mass in my NPS, which became visible when I transferred it to a measuring cylinder for water washing. Water wash was done in 9ml of distilled water.

I already finished the two water washes (water and nps being equal temperature), decanting this mass along with the nps and my dish is now freeze precipitating.

In the picture the amoubt of nps is reduced because I had already decanted some to my dish.

Hopefully I didn’t completely screw my first extraction. Though nothing isn’t lost since I haven’t tossed anything.

Cheers!
