SWIM is wondering if food-grade sodium carbonate can be bought easily without going online (his credit card doesn't work).

As far as SWIM knows, the baking soda one can get at the supermarket is sodium BIcarbonate, and as such wont work for his soap making hobby.

Just bake this baking soda in your oven at 250 C in thin layer for couple of hours and you will create Sodium Carbonate Na2CO3
Chemistry is sometimes simple 😉

And this will definitely be food-safe, after cooking? SWIM is very particular about the purity of the ingredients he uses in his soap.
