One hour long trip with DMT crystals, is this normal?

Okay, this was my first time trying DMT. I mixed some crystals with a smoking herb blend I had on hand, no solvent infusion, no enhanced leaf, no Changa, nothing special. I just straight-up poured the crystals onto the herbs, mixed them, rolled a joint, and smoked it.

I have a friend who has a lot of experience with DMT and even hosts a very popular podcast on the subject here in my country. I asked him beforehand, and he told me that smoking it this way was fine, and that he had done it a couple of times himself.

I was expecting the trip to last around 5 to 15 minutes, as everyone told me it would. But instead, it lasted a full hour. This was just unexpected, what the hell happened?

Also, people warned me that the trip would be short, explosive, and intensely fast, but it was actually much smoother than I anticipated. Of course, it was intense, but I was told I’d be launched into hyperspace within the first two to three hits. Instead, the onset was very subtle until it finally peaked and my mind shattered into a billion sentient pieces that traveled through hyperspace for the next hour.

For reference, the herb mix I smoked contained:
  • Red rose petals
  • Salvia officinalis
  • Chamomile
  • Mallow
  • Passionflower
  • Mint
  • Rosemary

I have no personal experience on the subject, but note that passionflower has MAOI effect. However I don't think it would be strong enough (or enough amount of passionflower in a single joint) to produce a changa-like effect.

Maybe it's your way of smoking. Smoking a joint is slower process, it takes more hits. Passionflower could have some impact, however most likely minimal.
