OpenAI just showcased Sora

I recall that, and this was a long time ago, i used to fear that the rise of A.I. would lead to a culture of intellectual and creative lazyness. When i look on youtube, wich is something i generally try to avoid because i start to hate that company more and more, this seems to already be the case to a certain degree.

All these A.I. art video's started popping up, and at first i was so naieve to think that all the "movie x by balenciaga" video's where made by one youtuber who happened to be just realy very much into the balenciaga brand, and that all the "hollywood movie x as a bollywood movie" where the work of one single youtuber as well, and the same for all the "movie x by wes anderson".

But no....99% of those video's where made by people who could not even bother to use their own imagination to feed the A.I.
They did not even create the idea for those video's themselves. And ofcourse youtube is promoting that generic shite, as bringing down the collective intellect of our species to that of one single, heroin addicted goldfish with ADHD, seems to be it's core mission statement.

I can only hope that either, this technology becomes available to everyone so that i can generate the movies or series that i would realy like to see, or that people who truly are creative geniusses will learn how to use these tools. Like the actual wes anderson himself. And that those actual works of genius will not be buried under a pile of rubble.

So, Sora's current capability seems to be a couple of minutes of, say, 1080×1920px at 60fps, with a processing time that seems to be within the same order of magnitude as the playing time? This makes me wonder - how does the end result look at cinematic screen size? Is there any process load concession derived from continuity? And how does the total energy cost for tacking 60 or so of these segments together compare with the full energy cost of producing a feature film? It's this final element that could be the deciding factor in making Hollywood film stars and their lavish multimillionaire lifestyles obsolete. Who would really care or notice if the celebrity section of the media was replaced by AI fake news anyhow?

Nuking of celebrity lifestyles could be an unexpected benefit of AI movies. Maybe Elon Musk got scared because he realised his job selling snake oil could be done just as well by a robot.
That's a standpoint I admit I had not considered until now, and I very much resonate with it. I can't talk about the energy requirements or processing capabilities of a model like that, but I imagine with a sufficiently large solar field and enough processing units/GPUs, one could easily make a full-length movie that would be indistinguishable in quality and content from the usual crap that pours out of Hollywood nowadays.

While I don't like the idea of actors and performers losing their jobs, their extravagant lifestyles are quite obnoxious and inconsiderate, as you mentioned.

In any case, I imagine software like this is always created with the idea of scalability in mind, so I'm sure they'll find a way to scale it enough to make it viable for bigger productions.

Same here. I even drove towards learning Blender to create my own animation, but easier said than done. Not to mention the patience, processing power and time required for the same.

I mean I can only imagine when the day will come when I can log on the net and use Sora to create a movie or an episode (paid or otherwise), because I assume that is going to require an insane amount of processing power since they are already saying even just ChatGpt is pulling a lot.

No better time to invest in Nvidia and Intel 😁

Indeed. That was a concern of mine from the first moment I heard of this type of content-generating algorithm. It's just a matter of time before the overwhelming majority of content on the web is generated like this. I wonder where this will go...
