Petalostyles labicheoides high in THH?

Migrated topic.
Nice info, it does look like an interesting plant. Petalostyles labicheoides however contains tetrahydroharman and not tetrahydroharmine. The authors also make no mention of their yield (see attached document).

They do mention however the occurrence of both stereoisomers of tetrahydroharman in Elaeagnus angustifolia, commonly known as Russian-olive. This spice plant may be easier to find and cultivate.

yeah i think tetrahydroharman can be made from tetrahydroharmine.

the harman is supposed to be more sedative than the harmine. hope i didn't get this mixed up.

Well... how do the effects differ? They are two distict chemicals, correct? Being closely related, but not the same... right?

Which is better?

WHY DON'T WE HAVE BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTH? :)

Please see 69ron's post for the various beta-carbolines

Tetrahydroharman is actually a 6-MeO-tetrahydroharmine, and is suspected to be potent. No cheap sources of tetrahydroharman exist however so it has not been widely assayed. But this may be due to change in the future.

EDIT: Elaeagnus angustifolia may actually be a really good source of beta-carbolines.

The Bark of the tree is a rich source of alkaloids. According to Duke's Ethnobotanical database the badk contains the beta carbolines:

2-METHYL-1,2,3,4-TETRAHYDRO-BETA-CARBOLINE
N(B)-METHYL-TETRAHYDROHARMOL
TETRAHYDROHARMAN and
TETRAHYDROHARMOL

The bark on the other hand contains some other alkaloids as well. None however with spurious or toxic activities.

SWIM bumped into this and would like to mention that Elaeagnus angustifolia is also known as Russian Olive and is found in 46 states (it's an invasive species).
This should be particularly interesting to people who do not have a readily available source of Rue or Passion Flower.

If anybody has a bioassay or an extraction tek please tell us about it.

By the way if SWIM read the article correctly this is the only natural source of tetrahydroharman.
