How about something slightly more practical and realistic - like perhaps some x-ray specs and a photon torpedo?

i love my mossberg i sleep with it (no not under the bed.. by my side in the space between the bed and wall.. i usually sleep with my hand on the pump)

I'll tell you how I learned my lesson about that. I was brought up around guns. When I was about 12 years old was the first time my parents left to go out at night and left me all by myself. I got kinda spooked, so a loaded up a .22 automatic target pistol (with a hair trigger!!) and kept it by me as I watched TV. When my parents came home I found myself waking up from a sound sleep, in front of the TV, with that loaded pistol lying on my stomach with my hand on it!! I realized how easily I could have blown my balls off!
I would never sleep with my hands actually on a gun--although on backwoods trips, etc., I've slept with one lying right next to me.

ive studied arrow poisons... and darts... virola resin has been used as a dart and arrow poison for a good long time. it wont kill, but will incapacitate the target and quickly. the resin is easy to get, and the dart poison is easy to make with tons of really good sources from ethnobotanical leaflets on how to make it, with pictures and everything for the illiterate. and when you dont want to use it to subdue any one... you can snort it.
basically its just a transdermal,or depending on how much it penetrates, intermuscular injection. it has to be shot with some accuracy into a leg or ass or arm... you want to steer clear of major organs the chest ect unless you WANT to kill them. it will take a little while to subdue them IMs take a little while to kick in. but not to long its not like with IV injection where its instant.

i love machines and the gun is such a simple powerful one... concentrated directed energy..
i like that 5meo idea (expecially the pressurized vapour one - needs to be very directional or ur living room will look like a mad party preddy quick[wreck on the deck]) - and iv seen monkeys drop from trees preddy damn fast from a virola dart - looks like this may be the best route foreward.
the only virola tree swim has access to is in a very public place but swim managed to gather resin from it b4 - so maybe a midnight mission is called for.

oh yeah and swim has a huge can of doberman gas - hehe this areosol is huge - like 1L and when u press the trigger it actually has a kick - like the bottle kicks back - one could easily take out 20-30 ppl with it (its from the local police force for crowd control - think apartheid) its just that indoors its useless.

I keep a loaded 357 on my night stand ( just in case).I wouldnt feel bad using it if some thief, crackhead, or other decide to break in to my house. They obviously have no concern for your life , and furthermore you dont know what they would do to you if confronted. In sc you have the right to protect yourself and your property! And I would definitly exercise my rights. (a police officer told me if you are going to shoot, shoot to kill to avoid any lawsuits). Not to sound like a cold hearted person, Id probily give them the option to wait for police, if they werent hearing that they would be dead. Do these people really need to be part of society? I dont think so.

The problem with the 5-MeO-DMT is that the victim will be conscious again in just a few minutes and likely to be thrashing around violently like a wild man. Unless you tied the person up really fast, you’ve likely made the situation much worse.
What about scopolamine? This is used in Mexico to render people incapacitated. A small cloud of scopolamine dust will knock out the victim and they’ll stay that way for a long time. Plus, they won’t remember what happened after they awake from the stupor. You could then call the police and tell them this drugged out crazy guy broke into your house and then fell to the floor unconscious. When the intruder awakens, he won’t remember what happened at all. It’s perfect. When the police question him, he'll have no story to tell them other than a bunch of crazy drug induced nonsense. They’ll lock him up for sure.
I don’t like any of these ideas, but it’s better than killing a person with a gun for self protection!
