Hello all.

This'll be my 2nd topic, here i want to ask you about the so called Ubersleep. Since this community is full of intelligent people i thought to give it a shot and just ask all of you what you know about it, what you think about it, have you ever tried it? Some people claim it to be fake some people claim to have done it (one being puredoxic who actually wrote a book on the subject and is planning to release a second edition soon)

Now, sorry for my lack of information but the last time i did some serious research on the matter was 2-3 years ago and things have changed since that so i might be outdated (ubersleep is still not popular but more people tend to believe it is possible, although humanity still lacks of actual ubersleepers)

I remember the first time i heard about it, i had some bad nightmares (for over a week i was killed every night at least a handful of times, sometimes burned to death sometimes eaten alive and so on, meh fun times -.- ) so i thought not to sleep, i mean whats the worse it can get? While i wasnt sleeping i found out about a fun thing called ubersleep. In theory if you sleep 20-25 minutes every 4 hour or so, you will not feel sleepy at all, actually you will feel calmer than a regular monophasic sleeper. The idea would be to only REM sleep and skip everything else. So after 2 days of no sleep i thought to try it out (i was getting sleepy, im not strong when it comes to will power i can hardly manage 3-4 days without sleep)

I managed to do 4 days in ubersleep, +2 without sleep is 6 day all together. On day 5 i had my first long-lasting dream which was awesome. Even though it was around 2 years from now i remember that dream better than any of the normal dreams i had since. I slep for 20 mintues, woke up before the alarm, and it felt like i was dreaming for hours literally hours!
But alas i was young and messed up the system due to saturday night, i went out drank a few beers got home and slep for 6 hours straight. After that i realized i cant do it while im so young (was 19 at the time) so i postponed the whole tihng and im going to try it when i get a bit older like 23...

My questions to you: Have you heard of it? Ever tried it maybe? Do you think DMT can have any kind of a positive effect on Ubersleep? Or would it crash the whole system?

*soz for all the grammar/spelling mistakes

you've just renewed my interest in this , i too have tried this a few years back and failed , however perhaps this is what the future holds

anyways are any other nexians experienced with this ?

i am also thinking , could this lead to a sleep disorder of somekind or worse ?

also what do the ubersleepers have to say about the whole melatonin-darkness relation thing - 12 hours day/night earth spinning on its axis and all that, whatever that is ?

Those i know who've tried polyphasic sleep reported some improvements in their mood/memory/creativity, but its a VERY hard thing to integrate into daily life; as its not that compatible with most jobs, social settings, etc (obviously)...Its also incredibly hard for most people to adjust to, and the first few weeks can be hell

Its interesting that some argue hundreds of years ago the norm was that people would split sleep into two section and just talk, have sex, or write for an hour or so in between the two blocks of sleep. Polyphasic sleep - Wikipedia

I've never done any of the specific polyphasic sleep schedules myself like uberman, just many many shorter periods of sleep deprivation (at most like 3-4 days), along with some strange schedules of just sleeping 0-2 hours a night for a week or two, partly because of school. Sometimes, during the latter, i would take around a 10 minute nap during that day which would be very blissful, filled with interesting dreams, and completely re-energize me.

Haha i knew i would find some ubersleepers in a place like this full of weirdos :D

I doubt it could lead to sleep disorders, as far as i know it takes some time to get back to monophasic sleep but you wont have any trouble :)

When I tried it, I failed.

My experience is that I feel healthier when I just give my body what it wants. After all, my body doesn't usually demand something such as sleep unless it really needs it, and my body understands my physical needs much better than I do. Indeed my mind wants more time to work on various things, but it doesn't know what is best for my brain, unfortunately.

The purpose and mechanism behind sleep is still not that well understood, so there are limits to the extent to which I want to meddle with it.

I would also be interested, of course, if getting less sleep in a healthy way would be possible, but I just doubt that it is.
