Poop smell, purification by recrystallization

Hi everybody,

Normally DMT smells like weird burnt plastic, but imagine you have to deal with a batch that smells like poop(old people poop smell basically). Is it a sign for cantamination or just the weird indole smell(skatole)?
Would it be toxic to inhale something like this?

In that case, could the DMT be purified by recrystallization with lets say isopropanol?

I have nothing to add other than all of my DMT's I've pulled always smells like, I guess the best way to describe it is... candy flowers. Or jungle smarties.

If you go through your extraction steps, we may be able to help more.

Thanks for the comment. First things first, to be frankly the batch isnt synthesized by the user.

It still seems to have a plastic like smell, its just that the fecal smell is pungent. Perhaps its some other indole alkaloids which were extracted with the DMT.
Personally, the user is just worried that it could have harmful effects when inhaling.

Rest seems to look fine, crystals with majorily white colour and a sloght yellow touch.

That is already reason enough to test it. If something is off, like the smell in this case, even more of a reason to do so. Reagent tests are affordable and can be used many times. That would be my advice.

Yes you are absolutely right. I wanted to avoid it, since I wouldnt need the reagants for anything else, but better safe than sorry.

Hello Guys,

It looks really opaque, crystalline, but also „hard“(maybe from transporting), slightly yellow.
It smells bad. A little bit like DMT, but mostly like old people shit. But still a little bit of plastic smell. The vapor smells similar, but also not that strongly fecal.

The trip was intense. Very strong bodyload, like im collapsing(blood pressure drop), then slight hallucinations of the LSD type. Most was over after 5-10 mins though. No CEV. Dose was 10-15mg around. Very ecstatic towards the end with sexual stimulation.

Obviously, a huge reason to be concerned. Seems nothing like a „normal DMT trip“. Ie no fractal closed eyes visuals at all.

Attached is a picture. The reagent at the bottom is Mecke, above is Ehrlich. I hope this is sufficient for helping. Obviously the results seem to be far of DMT.

Based on the effects, I would have said it could be DMT. But yeah, it's clearly not.

I'm afraid there's no way to know what it is from just Ehrlich and Mecke... At least AFAIK.

If I understand correctly, pink Ehrlich is indicative of indoles, so your test points to no indole. So, not a tryptamine.

Based on the effects and consistent with the reagent tests (but of course not exclusively consistent, there are many other options), I wonder if it could be some cathinone.

I have never had that. I consider the spice to be one of nature's greatest, deepest, and most spiritual odours there is. A mix of ancient earth, deep mushroom and sweet jasmin. Also, I have vaped deemz 30 seconds before someone came in the room, and they could not smell it.
This is not the 1st time I hear someone describe the odour as a plastic, but I honestly cannot sniff that at all in my extracts. I even considered making a DMT incense or perfume before; I find it smells so so good. I even take little puffs now and then just to slowly breath it out my nose and bask in the lovely goodness.
I think the basic advice offered here is correct. If in doubt, throw it out. The spice is so abundant and easy to make, why take a chance? If you damage the very self you are trying to have an experience for, it defeats the purpose.
Maybe order some more MHRB and do another extract, but with clean water, fresh Naphta, clean equipment? You can always order DMT carts online, but then you have to trust the source, which can be fine if you know the source, or not - You can never be 100% CERTAIN. I prefer making my own.
But back to the smell. I have had a batch a while back that smelled and tasted like old mushroom soup. It was not great. however, I later realized it was not the extract, but the carts. I tried using metal post 0.5ml carts once, instead of my usual ceramic, or postless 1.0 ml carts, and I got this weird mushroom soup. I cannot bring myself to ever 'throw out'' any spice, so these carts still live in my stash box (labeled ''campbells soup!..hahah I found myself clever), a reminder to stay consistent with my cart making.

If I’m honest the room I do my DMT sessions in does very occasionally smell very slightly unappealing, though I never get that from vaping the spice, or Changa, and with a bit of Citric Acid in the mix DMT is very tangy lemon or a bit like a lemon fresh cleaning product.

I love the smell of DMT , I sometimes smell it out and about , especially at a farm Anaerobic digestion plant down the road
