It's the fist time it flowers since i planted it, about 4 years ago.

Do you keep them outside in winter ? Do they die down and then come back or does it ever keep green during cold?

They stay outside on the balcony, the winter there is not harsh, no frost and rarely below 0 C temperatures. And yes they die down every winter.

Most def, I sit there every day just staring at the cactus.. It's also right next to where I have my veggie garden.. I put some bird seeds on top of some stones and birds come visit all the time too.. Magical stuff, all that's missing is a hammock, which I'd love to buy soon when I have some money :)
