A few questions first.

1) SWIM decided to purchase the VG. He knows the GVG is better, but financial issues hinder the upgrade. The VG works well with weed, right?

2) Torch lighter. Not buying a $40 one. He sees cheap ones on ebay for like 5 bucks. Still better than a regular bic lighter, right?

3) No digital scale. Probably won't be getting one. To "eyeball" approximately 50 mg, what might that amount look like? (dime size, etc)

4) Does SWIM's spice look right? It does not feel like typical hard crystals, more like very fine oatmeal, or something.

(SWIM knows the picture isn't great, but approximately how many mg's does that amount look like)

No way to tell how much is 30 mg. Density varies because like you said this stuff can be crystals or powders. Start low and go up, and do this with every batch if you don't intend to buy a scale.

One more thing:

5) SWIM has slight anxiety. A few months back he smoked the 'other spice (jwh kind)' and had three bad bouts of anxiety attacks. Had never experienced such a feeling before, and didn't like it at all. Recently took two vicodin for toothache, and had a similar feeling arise. Never, ever happened before. SWIM is pretty laid back, and not prone to worrying about things. Can't help but wonder if some kind of residual effects from the other spice problems are lingering. Swimmer thinks he should start slow and work up from there.

It's always a good idea to start small and work your way up once you are comfortable. I don't feel like you will learn much if you are afraid or in fear the entire time. And yeah, the vicodin probably reminded you of coming up and it scared you a little bit. They are just psychological effects that will most likely diminish if you ease your mind about it. I'd say give a smaller dose a try and test the waters. You can always up your next dose..
 
try to ease yourself in with small doses get used to the feelings . deep breathing is helpful . try to stay calm and level
roll with whatever happens. Its a good thing . The happier you are the better the experience will be .
 
After further reading

SWIM just ordered one of those digital scales from some Chinese company referenced in another thread.
No point doing something half-assed, especially with ones first steps into hyperspace.

Ordered a VG yesterday. Question: What substance could be used to practice vaping?
Would tobacco work? Or is there something better? (No weed available)
 
Order some blue Lilly (not the nelumbo nucifera one). It has blue petals in it. Practice on it and you can make change with it later.
 
I think it's crucial that you be mentally ready for a full-dose like effect at any dose.

SWIM's recent experience:

Loaded 30mg into GVG for the first time, took 2 full hits, and had pleasurable visuals and euphoria.

2nd day - SWIM smoked only what was left from the previous day and had body vibrations and confusion so intense he was a bit freaked out (wanted to hit the non existant undo button) and mostly kept eyes open in an attempt to reject further progression.

Still without a breakthrough, SWIM is patiently waiting for the right moment to try 40-50mg (after some calming meditation) and just let go.

SWIM has tried many variants of jwh Spice, with experiences all pleasurable.

There's a theory that someone posted recently about spice having 2 different vaping temps. The easier to ignite producing a more pleasurable, slower onset while the more resiliant spice produces more intense onset, vibrations and slightly less pleasurable experience. SWIMs fairly limited experiences with spice (and his friends) seem to follow this theory.

Whatever the case, for a beginner I'd say always load more spice in the pipe on each attempt.
