Pressure cooker used for reduction?

Hiya

Im in the process of reducing my acid boils down and have used a pressure cooker before on open valve to speed the process up but am not sure if this high heat is good for our alkaloid, does anyone know if using a pressure cooker on open valve (pressure is not being held inside) is ok?

Sure it would work, but your logic sounds a bit flawed.

If there is no pressure being contained, then the temperature would not get any higher then its natural atm boiling point, like in a pot of boiling water.

So you would actually get the job done faster in a big pot with a lot of surface area, and an open lid.

....Well yes now you say that sounds like it would actually take longer the way i was looking at it though was with the lid on and the valve open it allows the pot to get hotter by holding more of the heat in opposed to having the lid open allowing more of the liquid to evaporate at a higher rate mainly because it's constantly hotter but meh maybe i should just stick to reducing with the lid off.

I guess sometimes i just over think things to the max and over complicate it.
