PRoblem with melting crystals =[

Ello, so here's what i got going
250 grams of bark/ 200 grams dissolved lye in 2liters of water, broken down for 3 hours,
fresh 250 ml of solvent added warmed entire container rolled for 50 minutes speration pulled off only solvent add to flat glass baking pan freeze percipitate overnight, pulled dish out quickly poured nap off what remained was beautiful slightly yelled crystals, let stand to dry 10 minutes later completely all melted into thin dirty waxy layer.

Now i don't understand why this is happening measurements are all correct, and i have good bark.
if someone could enlighten me so why this might be happening be much appreciated.

After you remove the naphtha from the freezer, put it directly under a fan to avoid melting crystals.

Have checked the FAQ don't think it's what they said it was because tried the upside down mason jar solution no luck,
and do you mean to not pour my nap off nd jus evap after freeze percip.?

how long did you leave it upside down in the freezer?

When you took it out, what did you do, to retrieve your crystals, just let it stand or scrapped it or?

And no I doubt thats what tele meant because it would beat the purpouse of freeze precipitating. I think he means after pouring off naphtha.

Another option is, while still cold, scraping the crystals so they are floating around the cold naphtha, and then pour through a coffee filter. The quicker it filters/dries, the better, so if you have a vacuum source to filter, better, otherwise maybe filter it in a cold environment, or just try your luck as it is. Whatever happens, dont throw anything away. If crystals melt, redissolve with warm naphtha and refreeze

basically after they had melted into the gross goo i redissolved into nap a nice ugly brown amber layer of yuck remained at the bottom, i sucked off the nap leaving the grossness behinde put in in a mason jar, after 10+ hours in freezer took it out poured nap quickly as i could threw filter with in minutes could see melting occurring, so i close my jar turned in upside down put it back for 6 or 7 hours (had to sleep) woke up a small puddle of liquid remained at bottom, poured it off and set to dry, the dense bright yellow/orange crystals on the bottom started melting a little while the yellow crystals around the middle nd top stay some what dried. the father away from the bottom of the jar the lighter the crystals were, deep orange at bottom, nd yellow around the middle nd top of jar (still pretty ugly deep yellow) can tell im pulling more of other plant matter then actual good alkaloid so what i jus did now was broke up my dried crystals and redissolved again. Another orange gooy bottom layer appeared of yuck so suck up all the good and left the yuckyness and threw in a clean mason jar. What i suspect is that like i said im pulling alot of other gunk. someone i think i know is working same bark, he used 1 cup of bark per 1 cup of lye with three jugs (one cup of each lye and bark in both) using alot less bark then i was in each jug nd got a total of a 5 gram beautiful offwhite yeild with no problems like this. my lye bark ratio seems to be the same but on a larger scale in each jug sooo i am not sure. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

An STB almost always yields more color. Doing a nice A/B can make it come out cleaner from the first crystallization. What you have been doing, though, is recrystallizing, which is a very easy way to get those crystals nice and clean. Usually after one or two times of recrystallization they come out much cleaner, if not totally white. It explains that in the FAQ, as well..

i have the same problem wen i try to pour my nap off it does the sam the crystals melt idk y they melt in the coffe filter

Hey Grateful, Understand that what i have been doing is recrystallization, also have been using the STB tek for little while now nd on previous pulls on other chunks of same bark have gotta pure white to white with a little offset, which is usually what the first pulls have been looking like before they start to melt down, am starting to think that the nap ive been re using might have too many other oils and impurities in it, can really see them strong at the bottom of my nap container and this might be causeing the extremely deeper colour and melting crystals. Another possibility might be i think (not sure) that for somereason massive amounts of oils and impurities are breaking out for some reason. Can leaving your base sit for days between pulls or even overnight be bad? I usually work and sometimes cant tend to them all the time so i'll pull off my layers and let them sit.
On another offtopic note am huge fan of the dead, got a huge tape collection that was passed down to me 700 or so bout half have ticket stubs from all the way down to the late sixty. Am seeing further on saturday also!

this could be due to nap warming up or other impurities in the solvent, try the upside down mason jar trick see if it works for you and i would definitely do recrystallization for sure with your impure waxy gunk.

Reusing naphtha over and over can definitely start to bring more color. The naphtha left on the crystals will always melt the DMT when it warms. Best to try a cool room to evap the last little bit. Also heating the naphtha when pulling often pulls more color and impurities. Recrystallizing should fix it right up though. The dirtier the DMT, the easier it melts, as well. I don't think letting it sit overnight really makes it pull more gunk, so you should be fine there. Using fresh naphtha may help, and keeping it cooler while evaporating will, as well.

Enjoy the Furthur show, I should be there, myself! Love the old tape collections, I remember picking through boxes of old tapes when I first started going to Grateful Dead shows. I am sure you have some real gems in the collection!

My crystals all melted in the coffee filter when I put them in front of a heater to dry. DUMB-ASS!!

But, 20 mins later they were all crystals again. No worries.

This stuff is actually easy to work with. Goes into solution easy, cleans easy and precips easy.
