Psychedelic Buddies

I really would like to hang out with more people who ingest psychedelics. I love to talk about this stuff. It would be nice to have more friends that are into the same substances.

My friends all drink and smoke weed. Occasionally mushroom or MDMA. They stare at me with blank faces when I begin to discuss psychedelics. I get that a lot anyway...lol.

It is so awkward to bring up psychedelics with people. Psychedelics are so misunderstood.

I am going to a psychedelics festival in June. Hopefully I can make some friends there. I have tried beating around the bush talking about psychedelics medical studies or mentioning the movie DMT-the spirit molecule. I find most people are completely clueless about DMT. Clueless about psychedelics in general.

Man it would be nice to have a bunch of friends over for a tripping party. Take some mushrooms and maybe smoke DMT. Exchange stories and experiences. The conversations you can have with people while on psychedelics are so interesting and fun. The conversation takes on a energy all of it's own.

I love psychedelics and I want people around me that feel the same way. Any advice on the subject will be most appreciated. Tell us about your circle of friends.

It is ironic to me that you've posted this today...

This weekend I had the privilege of introducing DMT to my best friend, my wife.

Now, me & the wife have shared some pretty cool mushroom, Salvia D. & LSD trips in the past (she only partakes of psychedelics once or twice a year), but she's been suspiciously eyeing my growing interest in DMT for the last two years.

It helped greatly that we had a third party, a mutual, experienced, dear friend of ours come join us & help out.

So I did my ritual building of a fire in our backyard firepit that I made years ago just for these kinds of occasions. Got out my sacred tripping chair & the vape pipe.

Our friend was especially helpful when I was beginning to get frustrated that my wife couldn't hold the vapor in long enough to break through. He gently nudged me a couple times to say without words, "let her go at her own pace". I knew he was right, I just hate to "waste" spice!!! Lol!!

But with our friend's help & my enthusiasm & support, she had a great time!

At one point, she mentioned that she saw gargoyles & when it was my turn, what do you know? I saw them too! My wife was pretty astounded at that & it was simply wonderful to see such a big grin on her face!

To me, a dear, close friend is one that you can trip with & they don't bring any negative energy to the situation. Just go with the flow, love & be loved!!!

I miss my tripping buddies too. I used to have a good group of friends when I was younger but things change, people move on. I'm sort of resigned to being a solitary tripper at this point. I enjoy being out alone in nature while tripping, but I do miss some of those interesting conversations and hilarious nonsense.

Hopefully you meet some people at that festival and have a good time. I'm afraid that if I went to one of those festivals most of the people would think I was a narc or something :lol: I don't exactly 'look the part'.

Never tripped with many people to begin with, aside from a few good close friends, one of them that i've known for most of my life. Most of that dwindled over the years as everyones lives led them in different directions. The one buddy that i've been friends with for the most of my life, i still talk with him every month; we go on hikes, smoke mj, just talk; I enjoy that more than anything else. Id say that over the past 3-4 years though, i've been primarily by myself, other than with the lady. The lady and me have smoked and drank DMT many times together and have rambled endlessly to oneanother; mescaline a handful of times together, LSD, ketamine, and mushrooms. Other than the Nexus, she's really the only person I talk to about this stuff; as she's been as deep as me every time we've partook together. We're literally on the same page in regards to views on this stuff and everything in between. Anyone outside of who I mentioned ..there's just no sense imho (relativistic opinion )

Talking about something that is inherently outside of the linguistic framework; which means that aside from it being impossible to fully explain, it's equally (and probably much harder) difficult for the receiving party to understand anything your even saying.

This stuff isn't exactly 'hey whats the next lineup for the draft pick' type-of thing; it's not the typical everyday milieu. Society isn't all that accustomed to these sorts of practices right now. Will it become easier over the years, more open and accepted? Id imagine in some ways yes and some ways no; as with anything else in the world, but I definitely envision a future where these things will be relatively commonplace.

It's a razors edge we traverse. It's the path of a loner more or less, ime. The alienation and intense self reflection that can follow are very real and aren't to be taken lightly. This very thing here can make or break people imho.

I've said this before in regards to 'talking with people about this, getting on the same page, etc, etc' - if i can just meet, talk with and potentially have a deep experience with just one person and them having their lives changed in some way because of it lending them to lead a more fulfilling life ..then i've done my job.

It was fun in the beginning. We would get together and become cultural critics and laugh endlessly at the garbage on television, in movies, in pop culture, and even in our own absurd lives.

But now I don't really have that much fun tripping with other people. They drag me away from the experience, and the lingering fear of an emotional breakdown (on my part and their own) makes for much less fun.

I think that a lot of my deeper trips will from now on be in isolation with eyes and ears covered in a locked room. This is where I feel safest to explore the inner depths of myself and the universe and where I don't begin to criticize things and others.

I'm still more than happy that I do have these friends who have also had these experiences so we can talk about them when we're together. I still love vaping weed with my best friends; we always have a blast and no one gets all mopey as our inside jokes fuel our conversations. Also we may try to trip in a forest next time and see if this helps the problems that I and the group have been facing with regard to tripping.

Maybe when removed from society/the city we will be able to go deeper, together. But for DMT, I go at it alone. I don't want myself or my experiences to become a sideshow or entertainment for others, and I'm not a fan of people "waiting for me" while I'm flying through hyperspace.

I have gone through long periods of time in my life like this & that is all fine too. I love journeying by myself. As long as you thoroughly trust & love yourself, you'll be ok no matter what.

I do feel incredibly privileged & lucky to have a handful of friends who, if we so choose, we can trip together & it is good. And nobody is going to be butt-hurt if I decide to go it alone. We all know how powerful these experiences are & there's no room to judge, especially people that you care so deeply about.

Interestingly enough, my oldest friend (we grew up down the street from each others' family farms), who I've known since we were 3 years old, will still trip with me if I call & ask him to. And when we do, it's like no time has passed, even though it may have been 3 or 5 or 10 years since our last outing together. Truly amazing this life is.

Indeed. When I first started down the path, I was totaly alone in my travels. But since that time I've met a few truly amazing people in truly sincrinistic fashion. They've become some of the best freinds a person can hope to have. All I required was a lady to share my path with, to learn to grow as one as she likes to say. A lady who works to change the world in her own little way, and I found her, a truly remarkable human being. Perhaps she'd even read this and it would put a smile on her face.

The way things have been going lately, I'm really starting to think that if we simply apply the saying, "be the change you wish to see," that everything else will just fall into place. Since the first time I drank ayahuasca, many things have happened that at first glance would seem too good to be true, except they did in fact turn out to be true. I can only hope that this would continue.

I'd also like to say how thankful I am for this site, the nexus has really changed my life, and improved my writing skills dramatically at the very least.

This, & your post about getting screwed over, got me pondering just how in the world I ended up with relatively so many dear, close friends that are on the psychedelic path of an integral life.

One thing I realized, that I hadn't quite even thought of this way before, was that I don't take psychedelic journeys with strangers or acqaintances. The people I've tripped with were always, first & foremost, dear, close friends to begin with & our interests in the psychedelic realm were secondary to the friendship. Of course, journeying together with good friends just makes a good friendship that much deeper & rewarding.

Even though I've tripped alone hundreds, perhaps thousands of times & my life's path as a psychonaut has been filled with long stretches of going it alone, I have to say that I've had some pretty amazing journeys with good friends so don't discount the idea Akasha. This simply may be the time in your life when you're supposed to go it alone. Friends find us though.

Yesterday I had such an amazing experience with some amazing human beings, real authentic people, the type of poeple the world needs more of, I even watched one of them start a fire with a striking stone. We're 5 hours away from each other, so we met at an awesome spot in the wilderness half way, and drank aya. It wasn't all that strong but the real experience was simply connecting with like minded people. They understand the importance of these experiences. I'm just amazed by how peaceful I feel around them. That they would drive 3 hours one way to hang out with me for only 4 hours, I feel so honored to know them. They definately have a glow about them, they radiate positive energy. Simply amazing.

Great topic. This was a huge issue for the, an utter social isolation as far as psychedelic friends go. I knew that in my locale there had to be some heightened people, I'd heard of them:lol: but couldn't find them.

Then one day I found a group thru an online service where people who are interested in starting a group or gathering of like minded people could do so. Entering terms like psychedelics and entheogens and even shamanism, I mostly got hits on new age gurus coming in town to you their services and other boring stuff.

But then one day I got a notice of a group of local people who get together to discuss their experience with psychedelic medicine and I went to one of their meet ups. Since then I've gotten involved with a great group of dedicated people passionate about the same things I am. And they (we) ate doing stuff around it, working our way into a real organization. It's cool.

Maybe you could start one of these in your area. Be the beacon so that the others can find YOU!

One place that I would say to look for like minded people is herb shops. But not the sort which are just it it for profit, I'm referring to apothecary sorts of places. I've met a few interesting people at a couple of these places in my city. It a good avenue for me to share plants with people, as this is my mission. I find sharing plants with people who will grow them is much better than simply sharing aya, as they have the time to grow and get to know about the plants, and they can be assured that my intention is pure, they dont have to make any descision about whether or not to drink right away. Of course they're are people who want to drink right away, and that's fine, but I tend to focus on the more patient people who will put forth effort to grow them, as they're the ones who will continue the process of sharing. These sorts of people are who my deepest friendships are with.

go to festivals, psychedelic conferences, visionary art shows etc..meet others and begin to network. You wont regret it. Gather in the people who are gunna stick around, and start to organize nature walks together, go camping..do ceremonies etc..

Soon you will feel like ya got a tribe.

OP, Great thread! Hard to add much to such obviously insightful perspectives. The infectious enthusiasm of OP re the awesome "gift" that plant(and synthetic) entheogens embody is UNDENIABLE. The strong, sometimes urgent desire to spread/share the "word" is mutual amongst most of the initiates.

An interesting and intriguing aspect of dialogue on the Nexus, is that one can often intuit experience(and maybe age) of posters from content of posts. I only mention such, because I see myself reflected in many discussions.

As I age, having been "hyperslapped"(thankyou to the Nexus for this useful term) and "egodeathed" UNMERCIFULLY into the mystic weeds, on more than a few occasions, I grow more circumspect about "encouraging" others to choose this path. Indeed, suggesting the path to a non-initiate is different than connecting with the tribe of travelers.

Surely, finding like minded, psychedelically informed friends and family members IS an awesome experience. My sense is that for many of us who have flirted with the profound "insanity" engendered through serious medicine work, and come back for MORE, the practical reality of finding long term, discrete, grounded, non-felonious(sad consequence of our culture), integratable, entheogenic friends and associates is problematic. Most unfortunately, much of this is an intentional socio/cultural/legal construct.

The real gift of the Nexus is that it affords a freedom that should not be discounted. We(fellow Nexians) avail ourselves of an inherent BIRTHRIGHT that is ancient and integral to the human experience. I suggest we peacefully include any and all extant humanoids so inclined.

In closing, I would gently remind those upon the vaped dmt path, this is NO small beer. There likely never has and never will be a faster elevator to "hyperspace" available for the species. The magic is widely available(to those who REALIZE) through a NEXUS of ancient AND modern alchemy. Be safe and be wise, initiate the WORTHY. Peace!

I don't really view DMT as special compared to other psychedelics like psilocybin. There are many people out there going farther with LSD and psilocybin than some are going with DMT. I don't see DMT smokers as some special breed within the psychedelic culture. Anyone working with any of these medicines is interesting enough already IMO..and I have met some people who use DMT and talk about it etc, who seem reckless and I just don't have a connection with.

Who is worthy, and who is not? That is a very subjective label to put on people. People are people, period. Some people will be more inclined to get involved in these sorts of things, but beyond that who am I to say?

I don't like to think about myself as a "nexian" either..what does that really mean? I am just a person..like anyone else. Clubs are not really cool things to be a part of. At the end of the day, I am just me and you are just you, anyway. Approach the world from that perspective, and at least IME doors open up that otherwise would not have.
