P. colorata is said to have opioid effects. Chewing a leaf or two was noticeably anxiolytic for me as an unaccustomed individual. I'm not aware of the identity of the active compounds nor any safety profile, both of which would be good to know.
I had a leaf cutting of this which got to the root and shoot stage but then my delightful toddler chucked it on the floor and it never recovered after that.
It would be nice to try again someday, I think the wee nipper has mostly got past that stage.

Thanks! I got 3 small plants and they are doing pretty good. Here's some info I copied.
Extracts from the leaves, flowers, fruits and root of Psychotria colorata are traditionally used as an analgesic by Amazonian cabaclos native peoples. This analgesic effect has been studied in animals and shown to be reversible by naloxone, suggesting a mu opioid receptor mediated effect. Subsequent research has identified several active alkaloids in the plant, the most important of which are hodgkinsine, which acts as both a mu-opioid agonist and NMDA antagonist, and psychotridine which is an NMDA antagonist with little or no mu-opioid affinity.
Do you think it could feel anything like ketamine at a larger dose?

Well, ketamine is a selective NMDA antagonist but also has affinity for a range of other receptors which may modulate its activity. For example, it is an (weak-ish) antagonist at the mu-opioid receptor so it seems likely there would be noticeable difference compared with P. colorata, particularly as far as respiratory depression is concerned (if we're bearing safety profiles in mind).
I'll have to take a proper look at the existing P. colorata data to be able to comment any further. It would be nice to have another go with this plant.
Edit: from what I gather so far, it's as likely to be like tramadol as ketamine.

There is somebody who could tell me a bit more about this plant and its effects, so this another reason to be getting in touch with them. They have some great specimens in their greenhouse.

I own a p. Colorata however it is In its shoot stage from a cutting I received , I was curious to use it with some aya blends In the future , however , from a lot of reading I've seen on it , it may not really be a great admixture , maybe in small , very small amounts.
There are a lot of compounds that just are going to mingle in not well enough for my present understanding ways that make me feel not particularly comfortable with it just yet
However , it is intriguing , which like everyone else who's pursued it , wants out of it
I have always placed it s mu opioid affinity curiosity along side salvia divinorum s and felt such dismay that it's action was cut off at the gut , I would be very curious on enzymatic actions on it similar to caapi on nn dimethyls
We ll see , there's lot of time and always research , but Colorata seems a good candidate for study here too , if I come across anything new I'll put it up along this thread

My neighbors dog knocked my small plants over and some leaves broke off, so I ate them. chewing the leaves burnt my tounge in a strange way, but not too bad. I ate 4 mediums leaves off some young plants so it wasn't too strong, but I did feel it. It was a bit similar to Kratom but not as energizing. A few hours after feeling it I ate some kratom too and they mixed quite well with each other.
