pulling with toluene/xylene/methanol mix?

both xylene and toluene have been mentioned as being usable in extractions on their own, but what if a solvent comprised of these three were used due to availability?

Does anyone have any expectancy regarding how it would go since methanol is polar, whereas xylene and toluene are NP. mix ratio unknown. viable or not?

useful for defat if nothing else?

Not much use as xylene and methanol are not miscible.
Using methanol in a defat will likely pull some dmt salts however methanol has been used as the sole solvent and liquid in some old school extractions. The crude extract was then purified. Ethanol is a mucj much safer choice providing no heat is used.
The most efficient easiest way to defat is to do a cleanup, reX or mini a/b.

if a pull from a basified mix was done with this would the methanol not be separated from the toluene and xylene, leaving dmt in the toluene/xylene and the methanol in the base mix?

I've read that the OH of methanol bonds with H of water, so could methanol be washed out of xylene/toluene with water leaving a suitable solvent for pulling or defatting with mini a/b?

The methanol would mix with the water layer and would keep some (all? most? ) your alkaloids so you`d not get a good yield. Also possibly some of the methanol that would still stay with the xylene layer would dissolve a lot of impurities too. Might make a mess one way or another.

Either find a different solvent, or wash that solvent several times with fresh water each wash and discard the water. This way you will be washing the methanol out.

Do know that toluene and xylene stink like hell, not good to play around with them if you dont have propper ventilation. Also specially dont use them if you have close neighbours or others that might have their attention caught by the smell.

hi have used ethanol before in an old evaporation method but it produced many unwanted alkalies that were not pleaseant to ingest.
the only really useful non polars are butane and hexane the latter being excellent I think? for re-crystallization and cleaning the spice...
Naptha is the best choice as when at room temp it takes the highest amount of spice from the lye solution as much as 0.8% after the 24 hors at -18 freezing the spice is plain to see in the jars and can be collected and dried easily with a snowflake finished effect.Naptha is now available at the online auction house in the UK you know the one...
