Purifying DPT?

Forgive me if this is the wrong location for this question, but I am new and it seemed like the most appropriate place.

I currently have 2 grams of 90% pure DPT HCL. While I trust the source, I would like this to be improved, and am wondering if anyone knows of a good way to further purify this material. I know about recrystallization of DMT from heptane, but is this also possible to do with DPT? I figure the process would be different, since one is a freebase and the other is not. Any advice?
 
Would naptha work for a nonpolar solvent, or is there a better substance? Is there a certain type of ammonia I should use? When you say to use hot heptane, you mean I should heat it in another container in a hot water bath like I would do for a DMT re-x, right? Should I just use an eyedropper to add the hot heptane until it covers/dissolves the DPT?

This will convert the hcl to a freebase, correct? As I understand it, this is good for smoking, but little else, right? If I wanted to experience the 3 hour trip described in insufflation trials, would I be better to just consume more (considering purity, instead of 50 mg, more like 75-100 if I didn't convert)? Is there a way to simply reduce the amount of impurity without converting to freebase?

Sorry for all the questions. I've been curious about this compound for a while and want to get the most out of it, and expand my knowledge in the process.
 
naptha would work, and you should heat it in a hot water bath, same with the heptane when you get ready to freeze precip. you'll only need a couple mL of heptane for that.
household ammonia works for the basification.

If you want to convert it back to the salt, after you add your heptane during the recrystallization step, you have two options: let the heptane evaporate completely. then add a few mLs of dilute muriatic acid (~ pH 4) to completely dissolve the free base, and allow that to evaporate. dpt hcl will remain

or just add dilute hcl to your warm solvent you separated after basifying, instead of freezing or evaporating. separate the acidic phase, and evaporate.
