Is it possible to clean hardware store brand lye? When I was younger and dumber I had a friend who would use straight hardware store lye to convert his GBL, but retrospectively, this seems like a very very very very very very bad idea, as ALL contaminants of the Lye are in the final product (ewwww.. Haha)

SWIM was just wondering if there was a way to clean it...
 
He would buy food grade... but he has like 4 kilos of lye with no purpose now that he's adopted the limonene tek!
 
One can clean it a bit via crystalization from water but it is hassle and dangerous.
it will loose some of it`s power too as NaOH react with CO2 creating sodium carbonate
use it for cleaning pipes and buy clean lye for swim`s experiments

it`s too dangerous nothin like crystalizing sodium chloride or carbonate
