Hey Nexians,

in the middle of my first tek right now.

ive added naphtha and its being heated.

When I tilt the mixing bowl there is little liquid there!

Im worried I will have nothing to pour out into the precipitation container?

Can you offer any advise?

I think i misunderstood the final stage.

I added the naphtha and stirred it around into the bark.
All the naphtha has been absorbed!

thus when I tild the bowl theres nothing to pour out.

Can anyone advise best steps to rescue my tek please

If im doing 100g MHRB with 100ml vinegar and 100ml water and 75g lime, what kind of volume of naphtha would i be expecting to pour into the final precip container?

You would be pouring somewhere between 10-80ml of naphtha into your final container, if you have more than this you have to evaporate your naphtha until you have at most 80ml.

Ok thanks for your post.

Any idea why the goo is absorbing all the naphtha and allowing v little to be poured off?

Should I be rigously mixing the goo with the Naphtha while heating?

You should be stirring that goo, don't stop mixing it. Have you got more naphtha? Add some more naphtha and mix for 20 minutes, don't stop mixing, keep mixing. Once you have done that leave it sitting and some naphtha might appear, I'm not sure about that though.

Cheers mate.

This first attempt at tek 2 has drank 200ml of Naphtha. I have done maybe 4 pulls but only getting 10-15ml fluid per pull. Nice clear liquid into my evap jar.

After 2+ hrs I can see some largish white deposits in the liquid and the sides of the jar seem to be busy growing a sort of frost that I assume are crystal deposits.

Just been out and bought another 200ml Naphtha for the next 100g MHRB extraction.
This time I will add much more Naphtha to the 100g MHRB.

Still confused about the recommended volumes in the Q21 tek 2.

Mines looks like this so far

100g MHRB + 110ml vinegar + 110 ml water + 75 g lime + 140ml Naphtha

done some more experiments and my bark goo seems to be storing Naphtha and not letting it run off.

Any idea how I can get that Naphtha out for the freezer?

I have some in the freezer now but its a tiny amount in comparison with what I've put in!

Summary: My first attempt at Q21 tek 2
---------------------------------------

Spent most of the day battling against a soup that wouldn't yield any pools of Naphtha for freezing. The Naphtha was in there but quite happily bound to the fibres in the soup.

I managed to squeeze out maybe 30mls and popped it in the freeezer where it quickly started forming 1 good looking white clump, there are other tiny particle in the solution and who knows what on the sidewall of the container.

Not a failure by any stretch.

So with the bark goo sitting there I did some experiments as I had nothing to lose. I added some lime and mixed and mixed and the Naphtha trapped in the emulsion started to free itself. I got a further 20ml which I popped in another container for the freezer.

I will leave the 2 containers in the freezer for tommorow and when I drain the Naphtha off I will fill the bark goo container once more just for the hell of it.

I'm still not sure quite where I went wrong but hopefully attempt 2 will go much smoother.

Thanks to those that offered tips here and there : )

Will post yields when I know.

The same thing happened to me. I also added more lime. I think I didn't make my soup soupy enough. Then I just kept adding naptha a little bit at a time until the goop was saturated and then I could do pulls easily. I did this tek in a large pyrex measuring cup, which has a handle and a pour. It made things very easy. The q21q21 tek has given me my best results yet. It was bright white crystal. Not a trace of yellow. Awesome.

yeh, the teks are good but its essential to check consistency as the tek progresses.the measures in the tek arent totally accurate. I suppose the first time is a learning curve.

im gonna repeat the tech tommorow and avoid over-wet goo before I add the naphtha.

think that was my mistake.

I'm using the very same pyrex jugs as you : ) brilliant kit.
