Question about the different states and forms of DMT.

I’m pretty confused about this and hoping somebody can give me a brief explanation. I’ve heard of DMT free base. What exactly is that? And what are the other different states of DMT if there are any?

I know I could probably search and find out. But lately I use Google search and the AI always answers first. And it always says blah blah blah DMT is a highly illegal substance. I don’t really like using that. I do use a VPN on all my devices. There must be a way to turn that Google search AI off. I need to figure that out one of these days.

DMT can basically be either in freebase form or in salt form, as other alkaloids.

In freebase form: you have the DMT molecule by itself. It's basic (pH above 7), not water soluble, and preferred for vaporizing/smoking.

In salt form: you have both DMT molecules and acid molecules. They attract each other. The pH is closer to 7. This form is water soluble and often used for pharmahuasca or for keeping DMT for a long period of time, as it's more stable.

The name of the salt form will end in -ate and name the acid. For example, DMT citrate will consist on DMT molecules of DMT and molecules of citric acid. A popular salt to store DMT is DMT fumarate.

I hope this clears it up a bit. Most alkaloids (AFAIK all of them) can also be in freebase or salt form. E.g. crack cocaine is cocaine freebase, while "normal" cocaine is usually the hydrochloride (with hydrochloric acid, HCl).

I absolutely love the detail in this reply. I will admit however that I am confused. If I took the sldmt out with vinegar then lime, dried out the naphtha and then scraped it up... is that considered freebase? Im 99% certain it is, but confirmation would tell me i understood
