Question for first extraction! :]

Hello everyone, I'm preparing to do my first extraction using the Noman Tek and I'm gathering supplies. I have a question about what type of mixing jar to use. I plan on using 50g of prepowdered bark and so I figure I will need a container that will hold more than 1.5L. What type of mixing container would you suggest for this amount of liquid? I've heard of horror stories about glass jars breaking spilling chemicals everywhere, so I've been thinking about using a gallon milk jug. However, I can't figure out how you would be able to remove the naptha from the rest of the solution in a HDPE gallon milk jug. I was planning on using plastic pipettes to remove naptha but it seems like they wouldn't be able to reach giving the size of the milk jug. Any suggestions?

nothing is better than glass - yes glass will shatter if you drop it but you cant use a razor blade on plastic to recover crystals

this may be highly dependant upon where you live but i suggest that you go to your local department store and buy one of those half gallon jars of orangejuice that comes in glass a fifth of vodka, a medium size jar of strawburry preserves, a glass turkey baster and a glass baking dish

mix 5oz of orange juice and 1oz vodka and drink - repeat this step untill the orange juice is empty

now you have a 1.8L glass jar with an airtight metal lid, a small ~500ml glass jar to freeze in, a glass dish to evap in and a glass baster to pull with - shouldnt cost more than 30 bucks (20 excluding the vodka) and you'll have reusable containers that are durable, safe and nonreactive this will take care of all your needs till you buy lab glass

Oh thanks for the tips, haha I like the orange juice and vodka part. I was able to find a large glass pickle jar that I will be using. First I'll have to eat about 20 pickles though. :shock:

I plan on doing a sodium carbonate wash before freezing the naptha. Is it necessary to do a recrystallization with heptane or naptha after or would it be fine to just use the DMT once it is done freezing?

Also one last question. I am buying shredded MHRB. Is it acceptable to just use this directly in the extraction or would I find significantly reduced yields compared to if I ground it. I don't have a coffee grinder and dont have a coffee maker, so I don't know if I want to shell out $15 for a grinder that I will probably not use for anything else.
