Quick Phalaris Arundinacea identification guide

Migrated topic.

Imperfect

Rising Star
Phalaris as I suppose grows everywhere and I remember someone mentioning that it would be a good material for beginners extractions (but be careful boys, it probably contains gramine and definately 5-me-o-dmt, evalueted by A. Shulgin with a ++++ )

Phalaris appears in summer, not earlier in northen countries. There are many lookalikes that show up in spring.
The grass grows in bunches (not sure about how apropriate the term is... you probably understand, many stems from one place, not scattered across roadsides)

I have some pictures that i will add (can I post these below the text? Im not sure if just writing /directory would work).

Jim will try extraction with sodium carbonate/acetone very soon

Hmmm I dont know about citric acid solution I would imagine dmt is pretty soluble in it but I dont knwo from experience. Vinegar should be fine. How will you convert the salt to freebase later? Even with mimosa, when salting with vinegar and reconverting with sodium carb paste + IPA/acetone pull, it always remained as a goo.. Maybe if you can get some fumaric acid that would be interesting to check how it goes with phalaris

Regarding alkaloid and harvesting, im attaching one paper, and also check out the abstract of this one:

Alkaloid Levels in Phalaris aquatica L. as Affected by Environment

And the attached paper is Effect of environmental factors on alkaloids in Phalaris tuberosa.

Thoughtlessly reconverted half of the batch with sodium hydroxide when it should have been reduced in volume as a salt. It's now an aqueous solution drying on low, low heat on the hotplate. Might pull it with naphtha after all since the main objective is only to determine that there is DMT in the plant material used. I know that's defeating the point of using xylene, but evaporating that chemical isn't feasible due to living conditions. phew! :p

This month's budget for this project is gone and the pH meter still hasn't been stocked, so purchase of fumaric acid will only be later. - I heard brewing at home is a good reason to invest in a few kg. - However the summer is long and the grass hasn't even started to bloom yet. :)

The other half of the batch is still in processing... Could the citric acid, with a boiling point of 175C, be evaporated from the alkaloid salt, or would the salt too decompose at that temp?
Could it perhaps be a good scheme for phalaris to do this second A/B re-extraction with safer chemicals such as vinegar, lime and naphtha while the first crude extraction is done with citric acid, lye and xylene?

Sorry if I'm being a difficult read. I'll do better in future posts.
