I just happened across this while searching for something else - DMT Symptoms & Side Effects | The Recovery Village Ridgefield and I have to say this is the worst piece of DMT scaremongering that I have ever read!

Where to they get this stuff from?!

To be fair, the concerns raised are valid, as we have a whole safety page that talks about not neglecting relationships and responsibilities because of DMT. Also, working at the center, some stories come through... I'll just leave it at that. When people allow their convictions to be dictated by their interpretations of their experiences of the space is when people start spinning out and can have these trials.

DMT is naturally found in the brain in small amounts and when it’s consumed it causes the brain to become flooded with serotonin.

It's found in small amounts in the body, not just the brain, and acts on serotonin receptors, likely producing very little if any DMT. This is just the third sentence.

If high doses of DMT are taken, the drug may even result in brain damage, organ damage and cardiac or respiratory arrest.

Would love to see where she pulled this nonsense. It's been shown to be neuroprotective, so how are some of these things occurring? If she's looking at rat or mice studies and seeing some correlate to this information, she seems to be discounting the magnitude of dose a human would need to take.

It is important to note that very little research has been conducted using synthetic DMT. When people take the laboratory-made compound, and especially if they combine it with other substances, it may affect their body in unknown ways.

Why the focus on synthetic DMT?

One study showed that a similar hallucinogen, psilocybin, caused negative psychological experiences about 30% of the time.

Would love to see this study...

Overall, there isn’t currently any indication that people should take ayahuasca or DMT to try to help with mental health disorders.

Those who take DMT are much more likely to do risky things, like attempting extreme physical feats and these actions can make someone on DMT more likely to become injured or die.

in the case of psilocybin, about 30% of laboratory experiences include psychologically challenging experiences (Carbonaro et al, submitted).

I would say not the best, but still quite ok (ayahuasca is mentioned as quite neutral), except for that strange focus on possibility to create addiction.

I am always fascinated how some US sources deal with addiction potential, mainly when compared to reactions during your legal prescription opioids era.
