Hello,

I am interested in trying to make yellow/orange spice into white spice.

I've found heraclitus tek and read the instructions on wiki.

But I still have questions: Can you guys give me links to any more good recrystallization techniques and HOW DO I get the naphtha warm safely? Is hot water bath for naphtha in a shotglass enough? I just really don't want to work with naphtha and heat together, and I have gas stove...


The simplest technique I found was written in this post:


Would it be enough to do those steps, or does it require more details?

smokerx: I wouldn't even try that due to the naphtha and stove being too close together. Better safe than sorry when it comes to this matter for me... And I have gas stove, but even with electric one I wouldn't do it...

However, if one has boiling water and the shotglass with naphtha, is there a risk that the naphtha will "explode" if it gets in connection with the hot/boiling water?

And what is the yellow goo actually, plant oils, nn-dmt or something else?

Do not EVER warm up solvents directly with a heat source such as stove, even electric one might have sparks. Recently boiled, warm water is perfect already, no need for anything warmer.

The naphtha wont explode when warming up on hot water (not boiling water, because the heat source will have been turned off already). Just make sure there is no fire/spark source nearby. One thing though is if its a thin glass, your glass might crack if its a too sudden temperature change, so maybe dont have the water too hot, or warm the glass in medium-warm water before submerging in the hot water, or similar.

Yellow go is plant oils, potentially dmt n-oxide but personally I think nearly never, that its mostly plant oils. If you do the second pull as suggested in the FAQ, there should be very little if any DMT left behind in the goo.

OK I did it and it is very easy. However, I feel like two naphtha "pulls" are necessary, as there are plenty of crystals in the second one too. I wouldn't be surprised to see even a third "pull" yield something...

Well done maybe could you post some pictures ?

Last time I tried rec I was not able to separate the yellow impurities from the rest. It just would not separate whatever I would try. I lost lots of my lovely Spice that day :(

I found out that the problem was with my pull. I was mixing naphtha with MH, water and lye too hard and I puled some oil from MH and it would not separate. Next time I will mix it very gently :)

The yield is quite small, so it's not really interesting to look at, but maybe another time:wink:

Did you heat the naphtha enough, so the yellow would settle at the bottom?

If you pulled some MH oil, it should still settle at the bottom when the naphtha is hot/warm from the water below.

After it's settled, it's very easy to separate the clear (DMT'd) naphtha with a pipette into another shot glass and put it into the freezer.

Tried all that it just would not separate what ever I did. Naphtha was very hot when I was doing the rec. I even had thread about this here.

Except I lost lots of spice I did not achieve anything. The crystals are still the same colour. I know it sound weird but I have done all I could to get nice white crystals. Next time less shaking and quick pull.

Naphtha shouldn’t be too hot when doing a recrystallization – the hotter it is, the more likely the plant oils will readily dissolve in it. Also, you don’t want to stir it around much.

I’ve found that heptane works much better at separating DMT from plant oils than does naphtha.

I'd love to try heptane but I could not find it anywhere here in UK. Do you know where to get heptane in UK ?

In the US it can be found as "Bestine" in art-supply stores.

You can not buy heptane in UK in any form unless you have some official lab.

I must say that I wonder if the yellow/orange goo/plant oils are psychoactive... Because at least for me there seems to be differences between yellow/orange and white DMT. And the differences can be felt almost each time I smoke it...
