Regarding the spice cleaning method.

I am doing the ab mini cleaning method and then the sodium carbonate cleaning, but I'm starting to feel like it doesn't make sense. I am starting to think that it is pointless, because the ab mini cleaning method is sufficient to clean non-polar solvents and other contaminants such as oil.

Sodium carbonate washing is specifically intended to capture microdroplets of (stronger) base solution which may have dispersed into the NPS during pulls, along with stray droplets of base soup which may have sneaked over during the (awkward) pipetting phase. If you've used SC for the base in the mini A/B, the SC wash would, indeed, be almost entirely pointless, but it still may help in cleaning up stray aqueous droplets.
