Sealing SWIMs mixing jar

Migrated topic.

Swim has found a tiny leak in his 2L pickle jar. He can gently shake the jar and eventually get tiny drips of water from the lid. Swim is looking for a safe and preferably disposable product to help seal his mixing jar. He will not be putting these seals on the jars for the freeze precip, they are air tight. SWIM hopes this product would be available at a hardware store or grocery store.

Furthermore, SWIM is worried about the lid to the pickle jar contaminating the spice, he cannot get the smell of pickle out of it. SWIM thanks you for your time.

I've used pickle jars and haven't noticed contamination or anything like that in the extract, just clean the jar good beforehand.

Not sure how much having a leak in the jar will affect it, try using saran rap, what do you need a 2L pickle jar for? My dog has some in the freezer now with only tin foil on the lid cuz he ran out of saran rap for the other containers, (lots of lady dogs about). Not really sure if tin foil will do the trick or if water will get in but we'll see.

I always use mason jars and don't have any contam issues.

I got nothing to help with sealing the leaky pickle jar though.

I can get my pickle jar to leak a bit if I shake it upside down really vigorously. It never leaks when I'm doingy normal aggitations during an extraction. I always wear my gloves and just grip the lid with a white dish towel just in case. I haven't ever noticed any leakage. To summarize: I don't think a really minor leaky lid is much trouble if you don't plan on rolling it around .

SWIM thanks you, this answered his question. SWIM is not using this jar for the freezer, just for mixing and separating. He is also using Mason jars for the freezer as they don't leak.

SWIM didn't consider using gloves while agitating the mix, now that he has thought about it this seems like a wise move to him. SWIM is making one final thread before attempting extraction.
