A bit more on topic for the thread:

I've been using Btrfs as a filesystem for a while. The initial reason is that, due to a specific tool I use relying on many symlinks, filesystems like ext4 ran out of inodes often. I could have made a partition for just that tool, but didn't want to. Btrfs doesn't even work through inodes, and has additional benefits. So it was quite attractive.

However, after a while my computer started getting slower and slower when there was intensive I/O. I had no clue why and thought maybe it was related to having a swapfile (instead of a swap partition) on Btrfs.

Through much effort, I found out the issue just was that Btrfs was missing the
Code:
discard=async
option, and so it was not discarding at all, so the physical device was almost full despite the partition still having a lot of space.

After a manually triggered filesystem trim and setting up that option, all is going great, and I can recommend that filesystem :)

A bit off topic but I got my Mum onto using Linux to stop her getting phone-scammed and letting people into her computer!! Linux means they don't get anywhere to begin with, though not the easiest OS for an old person even when its Ubuntu. Got her on an iPad now which also blows her mind!

I imagine she mostly checks emails, writes documents, and browses the web. In that case, maybe you can set up automatic updates and not give her the password for root, given that she won't need to install or configure anything else. That way it's set and forget: she can just use what she needs and the computer will update on its own when needed.

Maybe Akira is of the same quality, but nothing else.
I haven't watched that much, but I have watched some very good ones. Ghost in the Shell is one of them, but there are more. I really like most of Satoshi Kon's movies, particularly Perfect Blue.

We could make an anime thread :D
