Sinomenine from Sinomenium Acutum

Migrated topic.

PsilocybeChild

Rising Star
I have read studies about it being a novel analgesic and evidence for it being an NMDA antagonist. Compare the molecule with dextromethopran. Could this possibly be a better analog of DXM for reaching those states?

A listing online for this states:
..3g+ sample of Sinomenium Acutum containing 99% pure Sinomenine. This is frequently used in TCM for it's purported pain relieving effects. I will add additional details in the near future. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions!

Here are two forum threads about it with no conclusions made:

The geometry of sinomenine vs. that of DXM is rather different. Dashed bonds are below the plane of the picture. Wedge bonds project out of the plane. I've attached a side-by-side comparison of the two molecules and a 3-d rendering of each. Crucially, the nitrogen atom is positioned very differently in each respective case. I would predict that sinomenine displays neither an antitussive nor a dissociative effect, at least not at sensible doses.
