What I wonder is, are there any POSITIVE effects from drinking Caapi during pregnancy? The mother's diet is SO critically important...
For example, greater levels of melatonin lead to a longer the window of critical development of the brain before puberty. Considering the shocking decline in age of puberty--which is, essentially, hormonal regression--I think any and every avenue to avert this regression/decline as a species should be explored. Diet is EVERYTHING. A processed diet even grossly impacts a child's dental formation. All of this has to do with the hormones in food either supporting or sabotaging the way our DNA is read. No one can argue there is a skyrocketing amount of developmental disorders afflicting our youth.
Plant chemicals affect development POSITIVELY, and considering the powerful and positive effects of Ayahuasca, I can't help but wonder if something like controlled microdosing could have beneficial effects?
My interest in this is not "I CAN'T STOP DOING DRUGS FOR A FEW MONTHS, OMG," but rather, taking all the data available to me as far as developmental biology is concerned and providing the best environment possible.
Since when has microwaving machine-processed chemical creations in a BPA-laden bottle become the socially acceptable alternative to breastfeeding? TV dinners and candy bars are legal.
I am in no way advocating jumping off the deep end and doing anything crazy before any conclusive work is done--the last thing anyone should ever do is cause any harm to another living being. But, at the same time, we are causing ourselves and each other a ton of harm already, and we should explore every option available to reverse the damage we've done. A living, plant-based diet trumps any other diet, especially from a neuroprotective standpoint. This makes me wonder if Caapi, too, could play a role in restoring a more nourishing developmental environment.
(Some thoughts inspired by Minxx's favorite book, Left in the Dark, highly recommended reading about plant hormones impacting DNA and development.
