Hello everyone, yesterday I embarked on my first ever DMT extraction using Noman's Tek. I started small, using only 50g of Mimosa Hostilis, and I spend a good amount of time making sure I prepped all the correct materials and equipment needed for this process. Unfortunately the extraction went very poorly, and I only yielded ~30mg of dmt, which is obviously far under the estimated 200mg minimum I had predicted. Now I've always been bad at chemistry, but before trying again I want to confirm the mistakes I've made with people who are more experienced at this. I have done my research, and I think I know the mistakes I made, so let's get into it
1. I grinded the MHRB for only about 15 seconds (x2 25g each time) using a coffee bean grinder. It worked well and the powder / fiber did seem very fine. In hindsight I believe I should have first frozen the MHRB for 4+ hours before grinding, and should have grinded for longer to ensure the highest surface area possible.
2. When following the guide for adding the naptha, it didn't really specify how long you should let the solution sit before separating. It just said "until the layers seperate," which happens within a minute when you only light mix the solution. I only mixed for about a minute 3-4 times, then waited 2-3 minutes each time for the layers to separate before removing the naptha-dmt solution. My question here is, should I have mixed the layers together a little more vigorously, then given it an hour or 2 each time before removing the naptha?
3. Stupid pipettes. IDK why the guide says to use pipettes to remove the naptha layer, my god it's almost impossible when the layer is only 1 cm thick or less. Most frustrating part ever, and I would get angry after getting some of the lye layer multiple times in a row, then just say screw it and add more naptha. Should I invest in a seperatory funnel (or maybe something else that is cheaper you may know of?) to streamline this process while also getting practically all of the naptha layer? If so, is there any easier way to get the top layer from a sep funnel rather than completely draining the bottom layer of lye / mhrb each time?
4. Only left in freezer for 14-16 hours, some other teks and experienced people have been saying 24 hours+, would that have made a difference? (Note I am currently freezing the left over filtered naptha again to see if I can still pull more)
5. And last but not least, the god damn coffee filters. With DMT being such a sticky molecule, I should have known this would be a problem. I don't know how to get the dmt off. Obviously I got some of the bigger crystals off, but after 10 minutes of scraping with a spoon / handle, there's still sparkly specs of dmt crystal in there I just can't get to. Is there any easier way to get the crystals off, or, more ideally, is there something else I can use to filter which would work a lot better?
Thanks to anyone that actually took the time to read this whole post. If there are any suggestions you guys have it would be greatly appreciated. These 5 things are really just the mistakes I made, I still have many other issues with this Tek (specifically using naptha which now I have to somehow dispose of in an eco-friendly way.) If you have suggestions for other Teks that won't require me to spend a bunch more money, and are relatively simple, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks again everyone, have a blessed day.
